I was an 8-year old Cubs fan. 'Nuff said.

Does that mean you are now a 48 year old Cubs fan, suffering through the subsequent disappointments of the 1984 playoffs and, in recent years, Steve Bartman??

 Yep!

Let's not forget the last two years of miserable playoff performances, though. This is the year, though!

'69 Season

Postby Whamo » Sun Jun 14, 2009 4:21 pm

I remember that season because Willie Mays was fading. I don't remember that much because I was 17, and smoking a lot of weed back then. It was an incredibly fun time for me. I'd spend all day surfing, and all night jamming on conga drums with a rock band.

Aside from all the obvious memories from '69, I remember the Ted Williams managed Senators finishing 10 games over .500 and even getting Eddie Brinkman to believe he was a good hitter. I believe Brinkman even finished in the top 20 in MVP voting. Even now I always try to get Brinkman on my Strat-0 teams. One season he even drove in 76 runs for me.

1969 Memories

Postby RickRanger » Mon Jun 29, 2009 4:11 pm

I was 15, and really into baseball. Played alot of Strat-O-Matic with my buddy Steve (aka Whamo on this site). I remember how good the Cubs were and what a total shock it was to watch the Mets take over the race. I remember Reggie's incredible 1st half and McCovey's incredible season. I remember lots of 20 game winners, and lots of 40 homerun hitters. I saw Rico Petrocelli hit 2 homers at Angel stadium on his way to one of the best seasons a shortstop had ever had. I can't remember too many seasons where so many pitchers AND hitters had really good years. It was a great season, and I really enjoy the '69 strat leagues since I remember the time and the players so well.
