New 1969 Theme League - Now Drafting

Our historical single season sets

[quote:7db0b4b997="LMBombers"]I drafted both Yaz and Fregosi. Two of the worst underachievers in the 1969 game. Maybe this is their season? I hope.[/quote:7db0b4b997]

This is just my 20th season of playing 1969 baseball, but I've already got a few NEVER EVER, EVER, EVER TAKE AGAIN guys on my list and Fregosi is one of them. There are others, and most of the time it's just how they play for me. One of my favorite players of all time is Brooks Robinson, but he has just killed me. He bats .265 and hits 30 dingers for the guys I'm playing against and dances around the Mendoza Line for me.
Go figure.

I have had Petrocelli just a couple times and he was way below expectations for me. But when he's against me, in my division, he kills me and has monster seasons.

We talked about all around MVPs for this set awhile back and that is where my vote was cast for Frank Robby - consistency. I had to say that didn't I? Now HAL will have his way with Frank too... Most folks voted for McCovey I think. And I agree he is a terror.

How about this question? What players have hurt you the most through the past? (as an opponent): Woody Held is on that list for me.

In my very first season I had Bando hit five homers in a game against me. Crazy.

Question from a Diamond Dope novice

Once Franky sets the time limit, what happens if a GM misses a pick? Can he come back in whenever he gets back on and make a pick immediately, does it drop to the end of the draft? Just curious.

The clock will start Wednesday morning. 3 hr per pick. If you miss a pick, I believe you can jump in any time to make the pick. Make those proxies!

So far, the draft had gone very well for me. The only players I missed were Frank Robinson, and there is no way he was going to last until the 11th pick, and Dick Allen. But picking up Bobby Bonds with the 11th pick in round 5 saved my season.

As for players that have been tough against me, other than the obvious culprits, I have found Dick Drago, Al Downing, and Johnny Podres to be strangely tough against me. One season, RJ had Nate Colbert in Fenway and he put up unbelievable numbers. Clay Dalrymple drives me crazy.

Of the superstars, Frank Robinson seems to hit best against me, but as Jim Bouton wrote "Going over the hitters, it was decided that we should pitch Frank Robinson underground."

yes, if you get skipped, you can pick at any time.

By the way guys, while I was on the road, I was loading proxies with my phone and it was tough. I made an error with my proxies and ended up with Aaron and Kaline....both RF only! Luckily, Kaline is less than $3M. I will end up having to draft only 4 OFs and force Hal to use Kaline as a replacement in every OF position for injuries.
Also, I drafted Torre to play at catcher. I could live with his C-4 rating, E1 rating. However, after I got him, I noticed his T-1-19 rating. Yikes! I just as well have picked up Hawk Taylor..my hero.

Another words...a clunky draft for me. Luckily, some of you other guys have picked up players you don't like. That makes me happy!

Kev,

I figured you planned to play Kaline at 1st vs lefties and Torre at C vs lefties and at 1st v righties. Torre is a 4(0)e1 T19 pb 5. Not good but certainly not terrible, especially considering he doesn't get injured. Hawk Taylor is rated 4(+2)e16 T20 pb 20. So, Torre is definitely an upgrade.

Anyway, you can try to trade Kaline (tough) or Aaron (easy), but you can't cut them. You are free to cut Torre at any time after the autodraft is run. Usually, there is only one manager that drafts Hawk Taylor. So, there's a good chance he'll be available.
