Sneezedoc,
No you are missing the point. If there is only $725 million in total salary for all the NL players in the set and we collectively have 12 x $60 million to spend or $720 million. All of the players will have to be drafted. I am one of those owners that drafted too much salary and in all likelihood will have to drop a top player. A few owners like JKolak, will benefit from these drops as they pull their team salary up to $60 million. It is not the drafts fault, if I eventually can't field a team with my current line up, its mine for not understanding the dynamics of NL 1969. For me the choice will be a simple one, cut Kooseman for two or three of those $3mil starters.
Now I guess there is the possibility that everyone has $2 or $3 mil to spend each with say J. Koosman and P. Niekro only on the FA wire. Collectively the league could afford both players, but seperately no one can make a FA move. If we had say done a 25 round live draft, this same dynamic would have occurred however. Typically most live draft rules would require you to drop your highest priced player if you cant afford to draft someone. When you are drafting with that rule set you would have seen some much more conserative drafting in the first 10 rounds.
The dynamics of this NL draft will be that for those of us who spent big money early, we will decide who to keep and cut, while those that saved money will get the leftover, high priced players we chose to cut.
Trading should be a very real option in this league as well.
I will have my team entered here in a few hours.
