[quote:c81a18d854="GordieHowe"]I have bought the team and changed the cap. Do you load your team leaving the first six spots empty, or the last six? (for the free agent phase of the draft - called something else I can't remember)[/quote:c81a18d854]

Keep adding the players to your purchased team as you draft them. When we all have 19 players and our stadium, we will load our respective teams into the league using those 19 plus 6 others to fill out a 25-man roster. At that time, you will need to RANK players. You would put your 19 drafted guys at the bottom (is that right?) and the 6 guys that you want over and above the 19 in order of preference.

Then, an autodraft takes place and we will walk through that step when we get there.

[quote:c81a18d854="GordieHowe"]Is there any advantage to not carrying 28 players vs. 25 players?[/quote:c81a18d854]

In most leagues with a $80 million cap, you will see MOST teams carry 24 players in order to maximize the amount spent per player. There is a slight danger in that because of injuries leaving you "weak" or "thin" at a particular position, but most owners will carry that risk.

In a league with $200 million per team, carrying 28 players would cover you at all positions. As stated above by the Commish, the game may use substitutes at odd times if there are excess players sitting on your bench.

A reminder to our newer comrades (on top of Risden's points) - when you fill in the six players you are seeking that you didn't draft, don't accidentally select any players drafted by others during our 20 round draft - even if the autodraft awards those players to you, you will have to drop them in the preseason and it basically gums-up a potential roster spot for someone you might be able to keep.

Actually, the way it works is the offending team must trade the player in question to the team who actually live drafted him.

If it's during the waivers period you just drop and the other team picks-up.

If it's my player I'm not looking to waste a waiver order pick to get my own guy. This is why we trade....

From Chess2889 in the 70's thread regarding live drafts:

Common mistakes:

1. Picking a player which has already been selected by another manager in the Live draft.
2. Forgetting to put your 19 already selected Live players at the BOTTOM of your list prior to autodraft.

If you get someone else's pre-picked player, you have to trade him back after the autodraft.

That's fine - and will work.

But why would you have to waste a waiver order? Just wait until after the waiver period and add/dropp? Or have the offending party drop without a wiver claim? Just curious.

Gents-
My trip has been cancelled, so it looks like I will be around the next couple days after all. I know sneeze is gone this weekend however - we should still try to finish up as soon as we can.

Dan, glad to see you are sticking around.

I suppose it's the same thing dropping the player or trading him.

Trading allows for immediate rectification, hopefully no one picks anyone else's player. Besides, trading is good.

Now Hailedog just needs to make his pick....
