So if I bid x on a player and then bid x+1 on the same player before anybody else did because I thought I was willing to go that high and it might help me get him that is illegal? I dont see why? Explain please.

I want to appear impartial here. I think the bid should be RJNewman at 0.9
Let's look at the facts: both gfdwarf AND RJNewman bid 0.8 at the same time. RJ then logically said "I want to go higher than that to 0.9" BEFORE gfdwarf did.
I believe that is the intent of the moves
Just my 2 cents

My two cents is that your 0.8 bid was the original valid bid. The 0.8 that was bid again was invalid, therefore there was no need for you to place another higher bid as you were the high bidder at 0.8. So assuming the 0.8 was remains the valid bid, then gfdwarf's 0.9 bid made later would also be valid.

I've never previously encountered anyone who wanted to outbid themselves... but then again I'm not commish in this league so it's not my ruling to make....

[quote:7b871a558b]both gfdwarf AND RJNewman bid 0.8 at the same time.[/quote:7b871a558b] They weren't simultaneous bids - there was a five-hour gap between the two.

If RJ bid 0.9 first, then he should have the bid at 0.9.

As precedent, I overbid myself (roundabout xmas time) because I was going on vacation. My overbid was treated as a valid bid.

Also, the commish shouldn't make a ruling on something not covered in the rules if the decision helps the commish.

That said, I don't think Pinella is worth 0.9.

Is Mazeroski available? If he is gone, then I want to bid on Dave Cash (say 0.9). If Mazeroski is still available, then I am not bidding on Cash.

Personally, who bids what on Piniella doesn't matter as I'm not bidding on him. I guess ultimately whatever the two bidding on him want is all that matters. I only noticed a weird bidding pattern and called attention to it. But I guess if someone wants to outbid themselves who am I or anyone else to stop it? :?

Probably is something to address in the rules of whatever auction is launched next....

Mazeroski is available.
