He was there all week at the autograph store in the Forum Shops giving out "free" autographs (of course, you need a picture of Pete, which someone jumped in price to $60 for a letter size b/w).

He was no doubt paying off some debts by signing. He's signed so many auto's, it's a wonder there's anyone left who would want it.
Mantle once said something to the effect: "When I die, St. Peter will most likely be waiting at the pearly gates with a dozen baseballs for me to sign." Rose will probably go in the other direction, but will face the same scenario once he gets there.
