NEW YORK - Buddy Biancalan, who struck a mighty blow for .188 hitters everywhere with his steady performance for the Kansas City Royals in the 1985 American League playoffs and the World Series, is not about to die out of America's sports memory.
Fans were asked to write to NBC-TV's show, "Sports Fantasy," and describe a situation in which he or she would be pitted against his/her sports hero. Corey McPherson, a 16-year-old junior at Redwood High School in Larkspur, Calif., said he wanted to strike out Biancalana, a Redwood High alumnus.
Sure enough, NBC accepted. On February 5, McPherson will get his wish and will pitch to Buddy Biancalana, sports legend, as TV cameras roll.
