Lefferts runs down the Big Red Machine

Following an Eric Davis bomb in the eighth which quieted the traditionally fickle crowd at Jack Murphy stadium, Padres GM Adam DeCicco made the shrewd move to bring in Craig Lefferts. The lefty's trademark sprint from the bullpen was just what the team needed to re-energize them. Lefferts made it out of the inning and the Padres bats came to life getting two much needed insurance runs. Bucking conventional wisdom, DeCicco stayed with the hot hand, rather than bring in his struggling closer Goose Gossage. The Padres cruised to an easy victory.

Despite a lackluster performance, Eric Show earned the victory and was photographed partying with local sportscaster Champ Kind. They reportedly ended up in a scuffle after Kind repeatedly yelled out "Eric Davis ... Whammy!"
