With two outs in the first, Boston starting pitcher Al Nipper tried to sneak a first pitch fastball right past the A's rookie, but Canseco turned on the pitch as if he were expecting it- launching it for a 480 feet monster home run.

Haas (10-6, 3.13) allowed just 2 baserunners in the game, both in the 4th inning, but escaped trouble by getting slow footed Bill Buckner to hit into a double play. Haas finished with 5 K's.

In The N.L. East... the [u:87a8dc0a1d]Mets defeated the Reds 4-2[/u:87a8dc0a1d] to move into a tie with the St. Louis for the division lead, after the [u:87a8dc0a1d]Cardinals lost to San Francisco 9-6[/u:87a8dc0a1d].

In the A.L. East... Toronto, Detroit & New York each won Monday night. The Angels are the only team in baseball with a better record than those 3 clubs.
