In a game modeled after the great He-Man cartoons of 1986, the Phillies beat the Astros, 9-8 in a game played at the Vet that felt like it was a softball match on Eternia.

Phillies captain Mike Schmidt was one of 7 players who hit 9 combined home runs over the Castle Greyskull. Other home runs came from Denny Walling, Jose Cruz, Alan Ashby, John Russell, as well as 2 each from Kevin Bass and Glenn Wilson respectively. Out of the 17 runs scored, all but 3 came on home runs. The most important run though came off the bat of Von Hayes who singled home the winning run in the bottom of the 9th inning. After the game, Phillies team mates taunted Hayes by plastering his locker with "Cringer" figurines since he failed to join the power brigade, yet delivered like "Battle Cat" when needed.

[b:047caa2d64]Back on Earth...[/b:047caa2d64] Tom Seaver had an impressive outing as the White Sox flushed the Orioles, 7-1. The tough luck loser for the Orioles was Dennis Martinez who came into the game, only to get pummeled in the 5 run sixth inning. Speaking of 5's, the two teams combined for 5 errors between them. They must have been watching Tuesday's Error-Fest.
