Game hero Kevin McReynolds smacked a 3-run homer in the bottom of the 8th inning off Astro's ace Mike Scott who was left in for one batter too many. San Diego all-star snub Bob Stoddard improved his team best record to 11-2.
The game was a costly one though for the Friars as Terry Kennedy became the latest Padre casualty, joining rookie catcher Benito Santiago in the trainer's office. Both Kennedy and Santiago are expected out up to 10 games each. This leaves the catching duties in the sole hands of veteran Bruce Bochy who made the team out of camp to mentor the young Santiago.

After the game, White Sox players were quoted as saying, "Oh Schmidt! How can I explain the loss? In the end, who really gives a Schmidt?"
