You guys must stink at drafting

Postby Valen » Tue Mar 04, 2008 8:53 am

I have created several 86 teams and missed out on a lot of what I went for. Even got stuck with Jose Uribe at SS. So obviously I have been terrible at filling out a draft card. Yet I am not in the upper third of waivers on any team. So if I am terrible but there are still a half dozen or more worse than me in every league that means.... the rest of you must really stink at this.

Just kidding. Seriously though it has been a while since I played the 200x games. ATG has got me spoiled to assuming there will still be players I like post autodraft. And my tendency to ignore one position completely assuming there will be someone decent left over will have to be changed. There is no "oh well, I guess I have to settle for Wills and his stolen bases or Burleson and his 1 range" post draft attitude allowed in these season leagues. I am dead on one team having to scrounge for second and short from a very weak FA pool.

I hear ya ... I have Templeton starting on one team, Shawon on another. The dropoff is pretty drastic. It seems like there are tons of unbalanced 1bs and OFs in the 2-4 million range, but all the other positions are thin after the big guys. There's going to be a lot of weird platoons, +2 catchers, and "3" range middle infielders in the starting lineup in '86. Oh well ... at least we're all in the same boat.

Excellent point about the catcher arms. I am going with a + arm behind for the first time in well ... ever. And I am not sure I believe how many OFers I am going with who have + arms and 4 fielders. But their other characteristics are just so tempting and with so few 1s and 2s it feels like one should be able to get by with weaker defense. But I do not remember defense being that bad in the 80s.

This brings up a question in my mind. In the 200x games has strat-o-matic been too liberal with handing out the top defensive ratings?

wonder how much the catcher arms is chicken and egg syndrome. bad combination, lots of gaudy basestealers, and lots of bad catcher arms (probably a result of the preponderance of sb) also some horrid hold ratings....like the magnificent jose deleon card with a +7!

How about Juan Agosto, the 0.50 pitcher who is a starter with 1 inning of endurance?
