Now on a 5 game losing streak, they are back in a first place tie with the St. Louis Cardinals a top the NL east. The Mets' most recent loss came last night at the hands of Montreal as the <a href="http://www.sportingnews.com/baseball/1986/scores/boxscore.php?id=1411">Expos shut out the Mets, 3-0</a>. Playing a hitting hero for the second night in a row, <a href="javascript:openWindow('/baseball/1986/players/player.php?id=2910&year=1986', '_blank', 650, 550, 'scrollbars=yes');">Tim "Rock" Raines</a> hit his 7th homer of the year. The real story though was super starter <a href="javascript:openWindow('/baseball/1986/players/player.php?id=42076&year=1986', '_blank', 650, 550, 'scrollbars=yes');">Jay Tibbs</a> who went 8 strong innings, giving up only 2 hits over that span. The poor unfortunate soul on the receiving end, was none other than <a href="javascript:openWindow('/baseball/1986/players/player.php?id=33696&year=1986', '_blank', 650, 550, 'scrollbars=yes');">Sid Fernandez</a> who fell to 5-9 on the year.

<br/><br/>

<b>In streaks of futility in the AL...</b> Those poor Royals of Kansas City have now dropped their 7th straight game as the <a href="http://www.sportingnews.com/baseball/1986/scores/boxscore.php?id=1417">Yanks dropped the Royals, 4-3</a>. Yankee closer <a href="javascript:openWindow('/baseball/1986/players/player.php?id=40140&year=1986', '_blank', 650, 550, 'scrollbars=yes');">Dave Righetti</a> blew the lead momentarily, but ended up the winner thanks to a double in the bottom of the 9th from the bat of <a href="javascript:openWindow('/baseball/1986/players/player.php?id=39220&year=1986', '_blank', 650, 550, 'scrollbars=yes');">Mike Pagliarulo</a>. That double made a loser out of <a href="javascript:openWindow('/baseball/1986/players/player.php?id=30474&year=1986', '_blank', 650, 550, 'scrollbars=yes');">Scot Bankhead</a> who is now 4-4 on the year.

<br/><br/>

<b>Speaking off walk-off hits causing 7 game losing streaks...</b> Those "now tied for first place" Red Birds gave the home fans at Busch Stadium a thriller as the <a href="http://www.sportingnews.com/baseball/1986/scores/boxscore.php?id=1413">Pirates fall to the Cardinals, 3-2</a>. The game winner came in the bottom of the 10th from "no, Jack is NOT my brother " <a href="javascript:openWindow('/baseball/1986/players/player.php?id=38523&year=1986', '_blank', 650, 550, 'scrollbars=yes');">John Morris</a>. The Cardinal victory kept the Pirates losing streak alive at 7 and counting.
