Ojeda (9-8) struck out 11, allowing just 7 hits in an efficient 24 pitch complete game victory.

The win allowed the Mets to move back into sole possession of first place, continuing the recent roller coaster of division lead changes that has seen the Cardinals, Mets and Pirates in first place on any given night the past few weeks.

Ray Knight & Rafael Santana led NY's offense with 2 RBI's each. Keith Hernandez went 5-5.

St. Louis slugger Jack Clark finally broke through against Ojeda with 2 outs in the 8th, hitting a 2 run HR. By then, the Mets were already ahead 8-0, making Clark's HR a mere annoyance to the 46,500 Mets fans cheering for a shutout.

[b:27d713d9d3]In Other Games....[/b:27d713d9d3] Tom Seaver hurt himself with a two out throwing error that led to 5 unearned runs, as Detroit [u:27d713d9d3]defeated the White Sox 10-2[/u:27d713d9d3].

Speaking of hurting one's self, the [u:27d713d9d3]San Francisco Giants suffered a 6-3 loss[/u:27d713d9d3] to the Reds, losing all three of their starting outfielders to injury in the course of a costly span of six at bats in the 5th and 6th innings.
