Both pitchers were great. Walk went all 9 innings, allowing only 6 hits and one base on balls. His Astro counterpart Knepper was equally impressive, striking out 8, providing no free bases on balls, and only 5 hits.

Two of those 5 hits were deadly though as they ended up losing the game for him. In a questionable move, Bob Walk was left in to lead off the bottom of the 9th, which ended up looking like genious as he singled to left. Obviously shell shocked, Knepper then retired one batter before Pirate catcher Tony Pena smacked a double to drive in Walk and win the game.

[b:763a618ab0]Down by Folsom prison...[/b:763a618ab0] Padres fans around the world breathed a sigh of relief after scoreboard watching the Pirate/Astro game, and that sigh passed along to the Padre hitters as they erupted for 17 hits against the Cinncinnati squad as the Padres defeated the Reds 10-4. Batting practice was thrown by none other than Tom Browning. Tom did a great job as he provided Padre hitters with 12 hits and 2 walks in 5 2/3 innings.

Most of the hitting practice came from Steve Garvey who beat the ball like a .... well, you know. Also playing tee-ball on Monday was NL MVP favorite Kevin McReynolds. Kevin improved on his MVP resume by adding 5 hits in 6 at bats.
