Thanks to Tom Seaver, the Jays were unable to break away on their own from the pack as the White Sox man-handled the Blue Jays, 9-2. Batting practice was thrown by Blue Jays starter Dave Steib who served a nice fat helping of "thank you, may I have another?" to the tune of 12 hits and 7 earned runs allowed in 4 2/3 innings.

The straw that broke the camel's back was the home run allowed by Steib to Ozzie Guillen of all people, who is not known for his home run stroke. That's enough to make sure that Steib's shower was a real cold one.

Game note: White Sox left fielder Jerry Hairston celebrated his 40th double of the year. Congratulations Jerry.

[b:5652f7574d]Out West...[/b:5652f7574d] Just 2 days ago, the Padres and Astros were tied atop the NL West. Well, 2 days later, the Padres have gone back up 2 games. Last night's hero was Neal Heaton who improved to 12-8 on the year as the Padres shut out the Expos, 1-0 at Jack Murphy Stadium. Padres closer Craig Lefferts recorded his 30th save on the season, pitching the last inning of the combined shut-out effort.

Game note: The lone run of the game was driven in by 40 year old Steve Garvey who entered the game after the 1st inning due to an injury to John Kruk. The exact cause of the injury has not been confirmed; however, sources close to the team have indicated that he a slight contusion on the inside of his mouth from his own teeth biting down while chewing dip. He is expected out only a handfull of games.
