Stud of the game went to Houston ace Mike Scott. Mike ended up forgetting his sandpaper at his hotel room and ended up only striking out 5 Cardinals while walking 4. Astro closer Dave Smith improved on his league leading save total by recording number 39 last night.

Dodger ace Fernando Valenzuela went the distance, striking out 11 Canadians in the process. The lone Dodger run came on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Mike Marshall who drove in Franklin Stubbs in the bottom of the fifth.

The win leaves Cleveland out by 6.5 games and the Red Sox only 7.5 back of first. Red Sox outfielder Jim Rice smacked two home runs and is now a member of the "17 home runs this year" club. Joining Jim was none other than Cleveland outfielder Mel Hall who also homered yesterday.
