New Player looking for advice on team

I am playing my first season in more than 25 years. When I was young I mainly just played the basic side of the cards. I started out 3-9 as I learned how to manage it but I am starting to do a lot better.

Take a look at my team and let me know what I might need to do to put me over the top. I sometimes wonder if I over manage but I have been winning more. I have made a whole bunch of changes in both pitchers and hitters. I tend to be a big platooner but more recently have paid closer attention to my defense.

Ripken, G. Davis and Barfield are my everyday players.

Bradley/Milner platoon.

Leonard/Daniels platoon.

Cey/Pags platoon.

Just p/u Laudner when Karkovice went down with injury and I like his card so I'm platooning Laudner/Lowry for right now with Karkovice as a late inning defensive replacement. Kark used to be everyday player. Herr was everyday 2B but he is sucking vs. RH so I just p/u Oester to platoon with him and see how that goes.

Lawless bats leadoff and only plays against LH. He leads the league against LH with a .400 avg. and has great speed.

Pitching I have done a lot of work on, Deleon is the leader in Cy Young votes right now. He seems to be unhittable but walks a lot of guys. Guidry has done well, rarely walks a guy. Tewksbury has in my opinion overachieved thus far and Dravecky is solid but not spectacular. I use a platoon closer with Mahorcic and Boever seems to work good. Horton is the middle man workhorse. I just picked up Quisenberry and have McCullers for setup. Many others have come and gone.

I tend to love watching homers pile up so I play in Tigers stadium (Live in Michigan) and been to many games there so I built a team with power. I lead the league in HR! - Thats pretty fun.

Any other Ideas??? or things I could do better??

SW I bumped up directions on how to post a link to your team . It MUST have a user id # at the end of the url . Post a link to your team please . It make it easier to help . Also what parks are your divisional mates in ?

Your pitching has been very good . With a few guys your getting lucky but luck is part of the game too. Your hitting is rather weak overall as a team . Your hitting 224/301 vs RHP which is 62% of the time . I try to get everyday guys and platoon only in one or 2 spots ( one being catcher) . Keep the faith and hope Hal can make the right moves at the right time .

Well, I certainly don't want to claim too much credit but I think I am putting my starting pitchers in as good of a possible scenario for them to succeed. I do no have a regular rotation. I pick my starters per series based on match ups. If I need to pick up a spot starter of waivers I do that. I think in a premium league I couldn't do as much of that because of the 20% rule but n the free league I think it is putting my starters in position to overachieve.

Luck is definately part of the game though, I see that.

Your observation on my weakness vs. RH was a good one. I have noticed that too. Since your post I traded for L. Dykstra to try and add some offense to my lineup against RH. We'll see how it works out.

Thanks for the comments. Keep em coming if others anyone has more to add

In this game (86) it's all about the pitching matchups more than all the other games of SOM . If it works go with it til it doesn't !

Update on this thread:

My first ever team online:

http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/stratomatic/team/team_other.html?user_id=85230

Believe it or not I'm 13 GB in my division with 12 to play. 85-65 is good, I have been going about .500 for the last 10-15 games. I'm now only 3 games up for the wild card lead so it is getting to be a nail biter. I'm hoping to start my online Strat career off with a playoff appearance.

This was a free team, I have since bought 3 more 86 teams. The Bunnies are the topic of another thread, my other one is 2 games above .500 through 24 games and my last team started out 3-0 after opening day.

This is a ton of fun, after these teams start finishing I will probably try a 2007 game, not sure about ATG 3 yet, seems a little intimidating with so many cards, not knowing any of them with so many experienced players playing it. I'm sure curiosity will get the best of me though.
