Cardinals Lose Heartbreaker, McGee, Oquendo[/size:44cfcc6630]
<img src="http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/images/baseball/stratomatic/1986/story_photos/willie_mcgee_3_150x211.jpg" align="left" border="1" width="150" height="211" style="margin-right: 10px;" /> Things went from bad to worse for the Cardinals over the course of World Series Game 3, as they lost 2 key players to injury and then, adding plenty of insult, [b:44cfcc6630]blew a 4-run 7th inning lead to fall to the Yankees, 5-4[/b:44cfcc6630].
Leading 4-0 on a rare outburst of power (homeruns by Jack Clark, Ron Karkovice and Jim Lindeman), NLCS MVP Bob Forsch gave up 2 hits, a walk, and a run before leaving for reliever Ray Soff. Soff proceeded to balk the 2nd run home, and then in the 8th, let the game slip away by giving up the tying and go-ahead runs on 3 hits and an error.
[b:44cfcc6630]Willie McGee[/b:44cfcc6630], the Cardinals' 2nd-leading RBI man during the regular season (which isn't really saying much), pulled a muscle in his face on a 1st inning strikeout and now looks like the picture to the left. Super utility man [b:44cfcc6630]Jose Oquendo[/b:44cfcc6630] strained his back hitting a double-play liner in the 5th, but at least he doesn't look like McGee. Both players [b:44cfcc6630]will miss the rest of the World Series[/b:44cfcc6630], making an already uphill battle against the Yankees much tougher.
Game 4 is back here in New York Wednesday night, featuring a matchup of southpaws, Ricky Horton vs. Ron Guidry.
