had the pleasure of meeting and talking with elrod on many occassions. one of the sweetest steadiest souls in all of pro ball. he's one of the last of a certain generation in the game, and the face of an orginization that can ill afford to lose one of its few remaining quality figures. in the wake of last year with sosa and palmiero, mazzilli, and tejada now looking to get out, hendricks gave a great and regal link to the o's proud past. each year it seems more distant. heck, elrod's even a decent low cost solution as a platoon catcher in atg2. r.i.p. to a lovely man.

I doubt Angelos ever appreciated what a fine ambassador he had for his team and the game in Elrod.

One memory I'll always remember involved Hendricks. I was 12 back in 1970. The Orioles were at Met Stadium playing the Twins. I was sitting down the right field line with my dad and brothers. Ellie hit a high pop foul and it dropped right into my waiting glove. My first of three balls from a mlb game.
