My Starting SS #'s

The Sucking Fregosi thread made me go back and look at my SS's

5 complete seasons so far
3 Finals teams
1 Champ

Kessinger, Fulton County, 86 win team, Finals loser
Kessinger, D. S SS 2e21 615 60 36 3 59 50 3 25 .272 .351 .323 1R 3.10M

Fregosi, Cleveland Stadium, 88 Win team, Finals Winner
Fregosi, J. R SS 2e21 595 90 16 22 84 77 3 9 .267 .415 .348 1R 5.30M

Chico Ruiz, Fulton County, 80 Win team, Missed Playoffs, THEME LEAGUE (24 team)
Ruiz, C. S 1B 3e25 513 50 7 0 31 30 1 11 .214 .240 .256 1L .50M

Fregosi, RFK Stadium, 75 Win team, Missed Playoffs
Fregosi, J. R SS 2e21 630 87 26 15 56 75 5 21 .230 .352 .310 1R 5.30M

Brinkman, Fulton County, 93 Win team, Finals Loser
Brinkman, E. R SS 2e21 573 44 16 1 45 49 0 13 .248 .309 .306 2R 2.21M

So, had Fregosi twice, once he did good, real good, and once he did average (for him it seems anyway). Ruiz does not count. Brinkman did ok I guess for the $ and Defense. Kessinger, for a million more than Brinkman, gives you the same defense, and more doubles, that million bucks got me approx. 15 more runs and RBI in the same home park.

In retrospect of my experience with SS, using the #'s I have gotten from them, here is my opinion:

On a Fregosi average (Fregosi) season, the best value I used was Brinkman-Kessinger-Fregosi in that order. If we knew we were getting the good season from Fregosi, it would go in this order- Fregosi-Brinkman-Kessinger

Just mention a new league that just started (12 games), I am using Campy as a full time starter, here are his #'s in Fulton County:

Campaneris, Bert R SS 3e28 44 4 2 0 6 1 6 1 .432 .523 .435 2L .65M

I am also using Oyler has a defensive replacement for him. They have the same e# but Oyler has a 2 range compared to the 3 of campy. Plus, Oyler has a few BP HR's, and N power both sides. So far, he only has one atbat, as HAL has brought him in 4 games, in the bottom of the 9th (3 times). I have Campy set to steal more, of course, but also to bunt more and am batting him 8th in a NO DH league.

If Campy can finish the season with 45 runs and RBI (each) adn Oyler finishes with 3 HRs or so. I'll get the same production of Brinkman, for a million less than him, which is two million less than Kessinger. Campys 45-60 steals, will just be a bonus. Wish I knew if the team setting for bunt more dealt mostly with pitcher at bats, cause it would be sweet for campy to bunt single, steal 2nd, advance to third on a bunt by the pitcher. But I have some heavy hitters on the team, and do not need them bunting EVER. I guess I could set the managerial setting to bunt aggressive, I already have the personal settings for those I want to bunt and not bunt set already.

Anyhoo, that is my perspective on SS's so far in this version.

Leo Cardenas is the best SS value in the set IMO.

Agreed on Cardenas (for the money).
Hits well for a SS, plays defense with the best of them and has 600+ PA.
