It is oftentimes said that it is better to be lucky than good. Yesterday I was lucky in the deciding game of the Semi-Finals in the Economic Stimulus League.

The Base Evaders had two outs, a man on first, they had just tied the game in the bottom of the ninth, and Bill Sudakis gets a ball park home run opportunity (HR 1-12). Unfortunately for the Base Evaders, but much to the delight of the Black Sox, Walt Williams hauls in the ball on the warning track to send the game into extra innings.

Then after that same Walt Williams knocks in the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning, pinch hitter Tom Haller lines into a double play (1 in 216 chance of getting that result) after Willie Davis had singled to open the bottom of the 10th inning, and shortly thereafter Tony Oliva flied out for the final out of the game.

8-)

Sign ups for the Economic Stimulus II league are still going on. Nine of the managers are returning. If you're interested, check out the thread for ES II.

The World Series in ES I is a match up of the totally lucky teams. The Red Sox made the playoffs although they only led the division for one day out of the entire season (the last day). In the playoffs they were outscored 21-15, and won the deciding game of the ALCS by one run thanks to two RBI doubles by starting pitcher Lee Stange.

I'm calling the WS "clash of the clunkers."

franky35:

Your team has scored forty-one (that's right, 41) runs in the four games of the Finals. Your team is not a clunker; it's hitting on all eight cylinders.

The Black Sox has their backs against the wall. They're down three games to one going into tonight's game.

:( :?

We still need three more managers for Economic Stimulus II!!!

Lee May (similar to the 1970 series) hit 5 HR in the first 4 games, but ultimately it wasn't enough for the Black Sox to overcome injuries to 3 starters.

And yes, we need 3 more managers and we can play season 2. It's a fun and challenging format. Sign up!
