AUCTION LEAGUE SIGN-UP - 1969 - FULL - Starts Dec. 5

Postby GFDWARF07 » Sun Nov 15, 2009 8:37 pm

[b:bb6a67cdf4]1969 Prehistoric Auction League[/b:bb6a67cdf4]

Auction to be held on dedicated TNS Message Board String here on the 1969 board.

$100M Cap

No DH!

Must bid on 25 players (10 pitchers, 15 hitters) and a unique stadium, which will also be auctioned as part of your $100M payroll (minimum stadium bid = 500K). These 25 players are your team for the ENTIRE SEASON (no add/drop or trading).

Minimum starting bid for any player is 10% of the player’s TSN established salary, rounding UP to nearest 0.1M (i.e. McCovey (13.35M) opening bid is $1.4M, Stargell (8.04M) is 900K).

Minimum bid increment is 100K

24 Hour bid clock based on time stamp on each message board entry (a player is considered “sold” when 24 hours elapses since the last bid – clock is reset to 24 hours at each bid).

Five (5) players will be up for bidding at any particular time (3 hitters and 2 pitchers). The initial five nominees will be the 3 highest priced hitters (McCovey, Jackson, F. Robinson) and 2 highest priced pitchers (Marichal, McDowell). Each time a player is sold the winning owner nominates a new player (any player yet to be auctioned) with a minimum bid. When that owner’s team has reached the maximum number of hitters/pitchers the nomination right slides to the next owner down on the division lineups (working East to West).

Divisions will be randomly assigned once 12 owners have signed-up.

Each owner is responsible for bidding within the limits of their 100M cap (budgeting for 25 players and a stadium, with a minimum salary/stadium cost of $500K).

BIDDING INSTRUCTIONS: Copy the full player name into the subject line, then include the player's last name, your user ID and our bid in the message body. The player name in the subject line makes it much easier to refer back to find the player along what will become a very long string. Thanks!

A word about the process: We have done a couple of these auctions in ATGIV and the auction itself can last up to six months. So we need dedicated owners who will see the process through and commit to fielding the team they purchase via the auction. Everyone has periods where they are unavailable and may miss out on certain players as a result – that is the nature of the beast. This is a very fun process and maximizes your credit value over a long period. We have a very good group of returning owners and I am sure this will be a lot of fun.

Thank you!

We will also have a separate dedicated thread for the auction results showing players sold, winning owner and price.

Let's see if I understand. This is like ebay-style open-bidding where we can enter higher bids right at the last minute? Is that right?

No franky, it's an open bidding format - there is no specific deadline for bidding. Every time a bid is made the "closing" for that player is moved out another 24 hours. That way everyone has a better chance to check in at some point every 24 hour period. Having a set closing time was too difficult for coordinating peoples' avaiability and schedules. This served us well for one entire draft and now we are in the middle of our second in ATG - it works reasonably well.

I will post a link to our current ATG auction thread so you can see an example.

It's a marathon, not a sprint!

As you can see, nobody waits to bid on anything (like e-bay) - you bid as soon as you want to, there is no advantage to waiting. And you can also increase your bid by as much as you want (more than the 100K minimum increment). Bidding for some players goes on for days and others are gone in a day or two.

I have question before I sign up.

1. you have to stay under the 100 mill in bid and in som salary cap. say you bid 14 mill for mccovey you have spent 14 mill of the bid money but only 13.35 of salary cap money for som? or even say you get mccovey for 8 mill in bid you still need to stay under the 100 mill in salary for som or will it be a 200 mill som draft but you only have 100 mill in bids to use?

Not sure when this might start but I am out for the week after thanksgiving. So you start after that I am in...

Grover, as I understand it, this will be set up as a 200 million league....the actual price of the players doesn't matter (unless of course you somehow go OVER 200 million face value for your team of 25...don't think it's possible though).
The key is how you spend your "imaginary" cap: In your case, McCovey at 8 million would cost you 8 millon of your 100 million....he would just be another player on your team in the 200 million set-up
