While we wait for the other leagues to fill, I wanted to get a sign-up started for a true 1969 LIVE DRAFT, to be held at a mutually agreeable time (likely a weekend evening in the next month). This will be the first true live draft we have held with the 1969 set. The pick clock will be set at 3 minutes. All owners will be expected to be online and signed in and ready to go when the draft starts.

The draft will be held on Diamond Dope (Adrian has recently added the '69 card set as a favor to us).

The league will be:
*80M
*NO DH (pitchers hit)
*Advanced rules
*Normal waiver process
*NO Trades - no free agent moves -you must dance with the girls you draft
*Unique ballparks - drafted any time during the draft
*26 round draft (25 roster players and stadium)
Serpentine draft, randomizer determines pick order

Please indicate preferred time and date range when you sign-up

Timing

26 draft picks x 12 teams = 512 picks.

512 x 1 minute average = 8 hours 32 minutes.
512 x 2 minute average = 17 hours 4 minutes.
512 x 3 minute average = 25 hours 36 minutes.

You sure about this live concept? If we start at night, who can go 17 hours without sleep? Granted, at least I would have an excuse for my picks...

Maybe the draft needs to be done in two separate sessions?

Most of the time we know who we want in advance - if we plan and monitor. The draft tools on DD help as well. If everyone is online and ready we get a lot of picks in 10-15 secs. This speeds up the average considerably. If you can average 30 secs it turns into a 4 hour process. That is what you hope for. But it's good to start it when you have some time, a few beverages and snacks lined up, etc.

I have done about 7 or 8 live drafts (none in '69 yet) and all went down in about 3-5 hours.

If the group wants to wait and do it in two sessions that's fine, but it would be good to start and finish in one session if we can. Hard enough to keep a group together.

We can also consider doing only 21 rounds - 20 players and a stadium? The autodraft the final 5 spots.

How about two minutes?

Plus next guy can come in and pick after two minutes and anybody who passed can come back and make the pick any time. That would speed it up. Or we can do it in more than one night. Draft is the most fun of the whole game. One question I do have is the DD site easy to navigate? Some of us have never seen before. All I have done is pay the link you sent me!

Its only 312 picks. If everyone took all 3 minutes for every pick it would "only" take 15 hours.

Something didn't seem right here because I've done several 90 second TSN 200x live drafts and all of them have lasted only roughly 3 hours. I have to imagine with everyone present you'd have a lot of quick picks (20 secs) especially early.

The salary cap makes it a little more difficult to run with in that short time frame and would think many would need the whole 3 minutes in the later rounds.

five minutes and three nights?

Draft is the best part. Kind of like my five hour golf round.

Thanks for clarifying. My experience too is about 3 hours. I think the problem with trying to do it over three nights is it is difficult, at best, to have all 12 owners available at the same time for one night, so you gotta make hay when the sun shines. And the whole fun of a live draft is the pressure when you are on the clock and how you respond!

Honestly, I have only done one of my live drafts on DD, but it was by far the easiest to figure out - very intuitive. Your remaining cap, etc. is all calculated for you. You can look at players, stats, etc., all on the draft page.

I would like to try to stick with 3 minutes, one night. And hope we can finish in the 3-4 hour timeframe.

Perhaps even a one beer for every three rounds rule? :P
