I want to try and keep at least one theme league active in 1969, and there were at least a couple comments that shifting sands was too complex for some people's taste, This league is very simple because everybody on your team has the same name or names. The rule is simple: you draft by first name.

Draft is serpentine and positions are by random number generator. Divsions are determined by draft order: East 1-4, Central 5-8, West 9-12. "Richard" gets only one name. There will also be one team available that has all the unique first names (Harmon, Cleon, Fergie, etc.).

"Richard" and Unique names get zero additional picks. William, Bob, Jim and John get 2 additional picks at the very end of the draft (rounds 6 and 7). The owner that picks "Mike" gets 3 additional picks (rounds 2, 3, and 4). All other teams get 4 additional picks (rounds 2, 3, 4, and 5).

Is Boswell assigned to the Richards? Or should he be with the Daves?

I am not sure I understand the concept fully.

Say I am first pick via the randomizer, then I pick a name to draft from? Or are we actually drafting names or players?

If I pick Richard that's it, I get all the Richards as my player options? So I'd be done drafting? If I pick John, I get two more names to pick? Joe and I'd get three more.

In other words do you get exclusive access to the names you pick?

Dan, It is Dick Bos[u:30120553bf]man[/u:30120553bf] and Dave Bos[u:30120553bf]well[/u:30120553bf] - that was my mistake.

You are drafting just first names. Because team "Richard" is so good, they don't get to draft any other names. You are correct - draft "John" in Round 1, then you get two more picks, draft "Joe" in Round 1 and you get 3 more.

Why is that? Because, after "Richard", "William", "Jim" and "Robert" are the best names, so they only get 2 more picks. For example, you could pick "John" in round 1 then "Dan" in round 2 and "Sam" in Round 3. Then you would be done and all your players would have the first names: John, Dan or Sam and you would have exclusive rights to them for the entire season.

Also, you can only trade a first name for a first name. So, you can't trade only Paul Blair - you would have to trade all the Pauls - Blair, Popovich, Schaal, Doyle, and Lindblad.

Free agent moves are limited to only your names - that is, only to your exclusive rights players. If the draft leaves any roster with less than 25 players, that team can draft any undrafted player with a salary of less than 1 mil.

Basically, you pick 3 or 4 first names and those are your players.
