All About the Boxscores I... League Chat

If its any consolation, my Regulators have taken over the cellar in the runs scored department. Luckily, my pitching has been keeping me afloat (lol, who would have thought a 9.57 ERA and a 2.26 WHIP would be outstanding)

Still no shutouts or pinch hitters yet.

New Runs Record?

Postby GREGGZILIANI » Thu Aug 17, 2006 6:53 pm

Folks, have a look. 43-4. I think I might have biggest margin and highest run scored total right now. Hack Wilson had 5 Dingers this game and went something like 8-9.

Babe Ruth

Postby GREGGZILIANI » Mon Aug 21, 2006 10:05 pm

50 Dingers in 63 games...Holy mackerel. Anyone have any predictions on him? I peg the over/under at 125 HRs for the season.

Ruth is still averaging over 2 RBI's per game... 325 to 350 RBI's is the range he's on track to achieve.

Everyone likely expected a Ruth to put up those kind of numbers in this Boxscores league... but how many people would have guessed the #2 HR hitter and #2 RBI leader in our league is... Rickey Henderson

In 63 games, he has 36 HR's... more than Mays, Mantle, Banks, Schmidt, and Clark... who are playing catchup on the leaderboard. He also has 116 RBI's, also ahead of all but Ruth. Ironically, while in normal leagues he's among the leaders in walks and SB's, in this league he's not even on the walks list for league leaders and has just 6 SB's, only good enough for 12th best in the league. Rickey is also #2 in slugging, joining Ruth as the only players slugging over 1.000 .... but Henderson is not even in the top-5 under "MVP".. what's that about? :x

Other factoids...

- Bad pitcher or good? Stoddard (Just Hitting Bombers) has a 16.41 ERA and 3.39 WHIP... yet is 5-0 with 2 saves... what?

- Meanwhile Charlie Lea (Home Run Derbies) has a slightly higher ERA (17.30) and a better WHIP (3.20), yet has a deserving 0-8 record

- Torrance Boxscores actually has two guys with WORSE stats than the above mentioned "pitchers"... Dennis "I'd Like to Play Tennis" Martinez (17.79, 3.44) and Dwight "Let 'em Go Yard" Bernard (17.65, 3.52)

- While several teams have several pitchers with ERA's in the teens and WHIPS above the 2.50 to 3.00 range... take a look at the inappropriately named No Pitch Hakers... team ERA 8.95, only 3 guys with ERA > 10, highest on team is ERA of 11.50... team WHIP is 2.14 and no one is higher than 2.30.. pretty amazing... wonder what's in the team's buffet?

Perhaps Ozzie wasn't such a great idea at SS...

Hak has a nice team, but he has a player with the most amazing performance so far. RP Booker is ranked as one of the 10 worst pitchers in the set according to my rankings, yet he's one of the top pitchers in this season, with an ERA 5 runs below Dreisewerd.

A nice little 18 run 8th to salt away a win.

84 hits in 3 games brings my team average above .400.

I have 8 CGs in 84 games, which is more than some of my real pitching staffs have by this point.

A couple other season notes:

- Mr. Pythagoras is rolling in his grave. One team has a -125 run diff, yet is playing .500 ball, while another is 6 games under with a +25 run diff.

- 41% of hits are extra base hits. Most leagues average around 30%.

- The gap between the highest scoring and lowest scoring teams is less than 100 runs - less than 10%. You NEVER see that in conventional leagues

- Every team is averaging over 10 runs per game. The worst is 10.84.

- An average of almost 2 unearned runs is scored per game

- The average error costs 1 unearned run, compared to normal league with an average of 0.5 - 0.7 unearned run per error

- The Babe is on pace for 118 HRs. No one else is on pace for more than 90, surprising because the record in conventional leagues is over 90. I'd expect a couple more 100 HR guys.
