[quote:379d4371aa="tcochran"]If Ray or Page2 or another manager wishes to prepare a draftables list before each draft, that's okay, I guess -- as long as it is viewed as UNOFFICIAL.
I could see where a manager might be annoyed by relying on such a list, making a bad pick, and then not finding out until 10 picks later that a re-pick was needed. If the list were official, then it would be reasonable to ask to have a re-wind of the draft clock -- and that's chaos that we do not need, as far as I can see.
The bigger issue is probably just one of having managers pay attention. No list is going to force a manager to stay engaged in the process. On the other hand, if a manager is actively involved, then such a list is not necessary.
For example, I run a 12-team retro keeper league. So far, we have drafted for the 2001 and 2002 seasons -- for which TSN/SOM publishes NO list of players, whether draftable or not. Our managers have had very few bad picks, just because they have paid attention along the way.
The same level of attention would probably be best for this league, too, right?[/quote:379d4371aa]
As a fellow league commish I got to side with T on this. While it's nice to have a list of available players there are downsides to it. The biggest downside is that it reduces the need for each manager to do his/her research. A keeper league of this type is meant for us guys who really like to get our hands dirty in the stats. While I'll have no problem with the casual owner who is mainly here for the fun, there is a certain level of personal responsibility that should be expected when you play multi-years with the same guys.
Then there's also the "screwup" issue. I've seen more blowups over an ineligible pick that was mistakenly shown as "available" than I have in leagues when no list is offered. Instead of a mistake being solely on the manager that makes it, in these cases the "blame" gets directed at the person who made the list - and that's not right. But it happens, and I've seen it.
Nobody's asking anyone to become stat junkies or anything like that. But I would imagine that if you're dropping $25 bucks on something you would want to take a hand in it rather than just put it on cruise control.
