I would like to host a Good People League again for a donation to an organization of MY CHOICE. The incentive to join and participate would be to earn a trip to the next Las Vegas Annual event in 2007. I will pay for the air fare/room for 4 nights in a hotel of my choice to the champion. The runnerup would have the air fare paid for by me and the other 2 semifinalist will have the room charge paid for by me for 4 nights.
The signup sheet for the Las Vegas event has it's own thread so if you interested in that event then please sign in there. I would like to have as many managers participate as possible. Rules will be determined depending on the number of managers who sign up for the event. The charitable organization will receive $10,000.00 and the letter sent to the charity of my choice will include the name of the winner of the tournament.
Since I taken the list from the other thread please make sure that you would like to participate in this tournament. If not, then please delete your name. This tournament like the one last year is played here on the site. It will involve multiple leagues depending on if you qualify to advance.....
Should you become one of the final 4 managers and cannot attend the Las Vegas tournament then I will allow you to select the charity but I MUST APPROVE. The charity MUST relate to human health or education.

OK, here we go... an interesting opening night for my team in League #4.
Game 1, I'm down 2-0 and my opposing pitcher, Gooden, is in the midst of a complete game effort. Runner on 2nd and no outs, HAL decides to bench my leadoff hitter (Doran) in favor of... my backup .76M catcher, Johnny Roseboro :roll: Roseboro makes an out and the innings end shortly after. I could understand if there were two outs (clutch) and/or if I were only down a run, but I need two, so why would Doran's OBP advantage NOT be desireable? Very odd logic, even by HAL's standard.
Game 2, I'm up 5-0 in the 9th... until Pete Rose makes an error leading to 4 runs (3 unearned), turning a should-be laugher into a nailbiting 5-4 win.
Game 3, I'm down 4-0 in the 9th this time, and I score 5 runs with 2 outs, including an Andy High grand slam (all of 6 HR's in 582 bats in real life). If the Andy High heroics weren't enough, HAL decides to rest my best reliever (Garber) early in the season, letting (a) Bruce Berenyi, .50M, get the win :roll: and (b) Larry Andersen, .55M, pick up the save... :roll:
Just based on my first three games, this season is going to be a long and interesting adventure. All good stuff, though.

fournier won a game with a hit in the 11th and then the next with a homer in the third
hal actually used my bullpen as planned!
Ken Smith my lefty platoon at first base with a card with 75%walks,, injured for six more games osuld be headed for dl(waivers if injuries continue)

On pace for 106 wins. Take THAT!!! :wink:
Seriously, I don't know what to make of my team. One thing, it is FAST. Although I do have Birmingham and Bauer (14s) I think everyone else is at least a 17 and A stealer (and that includes most of my backups).
It is also FRAGILE! If Wagner and Collins can stay healthy I have a good chance. I went from a Dobson/Cecarelli 4th starter to Wilson and had about 2 mil to spend, and couldn't see where I could improve any of my starting eight or my RPs for that matter, so I've spent waaaay more than usual on backups, which, with 7 potential 15-gamers (only exception is Cobb), is probably a good thing.
Should be an interesting season, to say the least.

Man, if you take away my "8" backup catcher, the [i:01c67c8bc5]average [/i:01c67c8bc5]speed of my team, including all backups, is 16.
