Thanks for setting up the league chat. And pay no attention to that guy jimmying the lock on my office toilet.

I am rarely happy with my teams prior to the start of the season. They are always works in progress, and that is no different with this team. I'm still messing with my pitching. I've never used SP Rusch and don't like expensive lefties as regulars in my rotation (unless it's RJ), but man is the pitching thin in the FA. Last time I tried this was with Madritsch, who went 8-19. Trade offers for pitching help still welcome. I also felt that I was a little too RH heavy even for Minute Maid, so I was very happy to see Sean Casey become available over the weekend (thanks, JD).

It's a little intimidating to be in the same division and park with Penn, but I look on the positive side as I'll learn a few new tricks and maybe win a game or two against ya, Penn. For the two rookies in the west, it's time to dance!

For anyone interested (commercial coming) cummings2, etdefender, and I are in a politically charged league called the Blue vs Red Party League.

We need one more player to get the league started. If anyone is interested check out the league chat and let me know. If you like the smack here, then I think you'll like this league as well. The open spot is for blue party (liberal/democrat leaning, but don't let that stop you if interested - etdefender believes he can convert anyone . . . :P ). It's all for fun and bragging rights and we'd love to get this league filled so we can get started.

Two things I'll never mix with my Strat:

1: Religion
2: Politics

As for your other points, I agree with you totally. Too often with past teams I found myself making my initial transactions and then standing pat never thinking that maybe I should look things over again just to make sure that I made the right decisions for my team.
This thinking was almost always detrimental and I ended up with teams that weren't really all that they could have been if I had just done my homework a little longer.

Now I find myself going up and down the roster constantly looking for ways to improve the team right up until 10pm opening night.

My first two teams since my return from my unexpected strat hiatus were both a bit rushed in putting them together and both teams have struggled mightily. My first 05 squad is probably headed for a last place finish with a at or close to .500 record. My 80's team has rebounded nicely from my tinkerings and is in 1st place at the moment.

My belief now is that if I feel comfortable with a team, I really need to go back over them again.

A new thread to discuss all of our favorite subjects while playing SOM.

I have attempted to stay out of the political discussions as much as possible. but every so often - This overfaired, long haired sleeping gnome, who occasionally dreams he is the star of a hollywood movie - just can help hisself when he encounters some white supremist, kill for Jesus, Neo Nazi, rascist, redneck, biker, drugstore cowboys spewing their beliefs as is they were Cosmic Law.

So I have found that it is best to just stay away from the political and religious threads - or the Bullpen altogether.

That's why I prefer to discuss Fashion among my friendly neighborhood SOM competitors. Not one major argument yet.

No problem cutting Sean Casey loose for ya, Charlie. You guys really couldn't leave me a single quality defender in centerfield, could you? Did I want to pick up Carlos Beltran? No. But did I really have a choice? Dave Roberts? Don't make me slap you! In a division with 2 Minute Maid's though, I will take Beltran and Huff over Casey and Roberts for lineup consistency.

And Glendon Rusch is usually money in the bank. I've had him win 20+ and post really solid ERA's. He should do fine for you.

Just as long as ...

Nobody starts with the - "Those colors don't match" or the typical, thoughtless, "out of style" comments you hear from some less evolved managers when their team is losing.

I think we should agree to not insult each other's fashion statements. OK?

Because the last time it happenned - especially if someone says it loud enuf so all the players can hear it - FRod plunked the guy right in his ear.

Send it at me in the dugout... it's not my guy's fault that I hurt you so.

Wow, I hate to do it, but I have 2 top tier catches and I will have to DH one of them. No one wants to trade for Kendal or Burke?

Hey Rob...I just gotta tell you that your uniforms are out of style and the colors don't match. :P 8)

Well from the looks of the transaction wire many of us have been doing that last minute fine tuning. I have a feeling that this season could be a knockdown, dragout brawl.

Just wanted to say good luck to everyone this season..."PLAY BALL!"
