ATG 5 auction bidding

ATG 5 auction bidding

Postby gorshar » Sat Dec 26, 2009 4:59 am

New auction, but with a twist - closed bidding.

Here are the rules, but they are not written in stone.

League: ATG5, DH, unique ballparks. Bidding follows the usual $80/$200 convention. You have $80 mill to bid with and the total value of your roster is not to exceed $200 mill in Strat/SOM dollars.

Bidding format: League will start with the top three hitters (Ruth, Gibson, Mantle) and top two pitchers (Maddux, Alexander). For these five players we will look for volunteers not interested in any one player. I am willing to accept bids (and therefore not bid upon) Mantle, Maddux, and Alexander. We then only need a volunteer willing to forego bidding on Ruth and Gibson.

Each owner has 24 hours to PM a bid to the nominating owner. Highest bid gets the player. After 24 hours have passed, the nominating owner/bid recipient will post the bids to the board. In the event of a tie, the owners who bid the tie (not all bidders) must each re-submit a bid within 24 hours higher than their previous bid.

The winner of a player then nominates a new player and has the option of bidding themselves. For example, I win Ruth. Now I nominate Ty Cobb. If I want, I can bid on him. So I offer a bid of 10 million. All interested owners can then submit a bid higher than $10 mill with the highest taking the player. If nobody is interested in bidding higher than the amount I offered, I get Cobb for that $10 mill. I am not however permitted to resubmit a bid. I also would have the option of nominating Cobb without a bid. If a player is nominated without a bid and nobody bids than the nominating owner gets that player at the minimum bid of 10% or 500K whichever is greater.

Needless to say, integrity is essential to this auction and any nominator who assists another owner by privately revealing the high bid on a player will be tarred, feathered, thrown in a stockade and branded forever as a person "who sucks". Alternatively we just kill you.

Rosters must conform to ATG 5 draft regulations.

For players with multiple cards, the bidding will be on the highest value card, though owners may choose to use a different card during the season.

Once the auction is finished there is no trading or free agent drops/picks. What you draft is what you get. The only exception is players with multiple cards may be exchanged for different years if for some reason a manager wants to use a lowered-valued or card. But remember, during the auction, the highest value will be used in determining your total allowed roster (from the $200 mill limit).

Stadiums - will not be part of the auction. At the end of the auction we will draft unique parks. The order will be determined by the total SOM/Strat value of your final roster from low to high.

Please feel free to amend, discuss, offer alternatives to the rules above. They are not etched in stone. Also if you are willing to pass on Ruth or Gibson (Josh, not Bob) and accept the bids for that player, please indicate. I'm willing to take the bids on the other three, but if anyone feels it better to have one to an owner, than I'll take the Mantle bids and someone can volunteer for Alexander and Maddux.

Did I forget anything?

Would you prefer that the bids are submitted in $100,000 increments? Or would you prefer $10,000 to make ties less likely?

I did think of something else....

Because we're not bidding each other up as in the other auctions, I think we can allow bids in increments of 10K instead of 100K as reflects the SOM/Strat salaries. This could be interesting when funds get short - which I think will happen sooner than in the other ATG auctions.

So while I'm writing my post about 10K increments, you post your question about it...

...this is, dude, like, really bizarro....

So yes, 10K increments here.

Should all PM bids on a player be posted once the 24 hours have lapsed? Example, I nominate Ruth for 10.0, litangel bids 14.69, BobBoone bids 17.0, gorshar bids 48.33, DHowser pm's me that he passes, and everyone else does not respond within 24 hours. Should we just post:

Gorshar wins Ruth for 48.33

or something like:

Gorshar wins Ruth
Gorshar 48.33
BobBoone 17.0
litangel 14.69
getowtamypot (opening) 10.0
DHowser passed

Don't know if since one person sees the bid amounts for a player if they should be made 'public' when the auction for that player is over. Just a thought.
