Taking a break between yardwork, got the call from Tom.

Picked my favorite current player, Lance Berkman.

My team name will be Thunder Balls. I haven"t seen anyone else post their team name so I thought I would start. Good luck in the draft.

Well, yer up Thunder Balls. :)

So many good team names to choose from, I can't settle on just one quite yet. But I like Thunder Balls. So to speak.

All my bags are packed.....

....I'm ready to go
I've put in 8 proxies
So you know
It won't be me
Who holds things up
Today...

I'm going to commit to a team name, so nobody else takes it:

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

It's the entire Bond oeuvre, summed up neatly by history's finest film critic, Pauline Kael.

But it's more than that, too. It's what the Japanese call Bond. And it's the name of a song heard in the background of "Thunderball" (originally that film's theme song, but dropped at the last minute for Tom Jones' self-titled tune). It's also the name of a 007 fan club and a website.

Most recently, Shane Black (screenwriter of 'Lethal Weapon,' 'The Last Boy Scout,' 'The Long Kiss Goodnight' and other action films), made his directorial debut with a tongue in cheek buddy picture called 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang,' from his own script, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer. It's quite funny and smart, though for the big climax the tongue pretty much punctures the cheek and any thread connecting the plot to reality goes straight off the highway.

I'm outta here for at least a day. I'll try to check back by Monday night, but no promises. Call if you must.

Glad to see I spoiled Tom's first round pick.

Also glad to see ColFalkland has navigated the www.somdraft.com site well enough to make his first round pick: NL MVP Ryan Howard, who seems at first glance to be relatively undervalued among this year's cards.

Do let us know if you have any problems. And, if you are an absolute rookie to Strat-o-Matic Online, let me know if you want me to "private message" you any advice. First time around, I made a couple of basic mistakes (not checking injury rolls, getting arm strength ratings turned around), that I am sure you would just as soon avoid. (It's more fun if everyone is competitive; especially since you are not in my division.)

Regarding the timing of the rounds, I used the default 4 hours per pick, but the draft application does not automatically skip people who go beyond their allotted time. The draft administrator has to do that.

As Tom noted, we've been lenient in the past. I figure you can't have a league unless you get 12 happy owners to actually sign up.

That said, I think we'd all like to get this league going sooner rather than later. Am I crazy to think we could possibly get a 16-round draft done and have everyone signed up on the SOM site in time to begin play on Monday the 26th?

After we get everyone on board for the first round, let's try to certainly spend no more than 4 hours to get picks done between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. Eastern. Please let folks know here if there will be times when you'll not be able to check. And use proxies!

HELP!!! I think I am setting up the proxies right but have no idea for sure. I have only played in a free league so far and got eight injuries in four days, so was a little shell shocked coming out of that, it's still running by the way.
