Bob's FRANCHISE 5 - COMMITTEE CHAT SITE FOR PROJ ROSTERS

Postby andycummings65 » Tue Jan 15, 2008 7:16 pm

My vote is to keep it at 12 teams for three seasons, then reassess.

I'm for Nuking the Phillies and for keeping the non pitching- I-only-have-two-good-players- Reds on the shelf.

[quote:df6671c95b]Why 12? It will make it clear as to which franchises get which players. Most teams are unsure of who'll they get untill the 12th team is picked. This could have huge effect on the Cards, Giants, Braves, White Sox, Indians.
Some franchises are pretty much set and these teams benifit from a muddying of th water that the option of 13 franchises present

Why Nuke the Phillies? It makes the other teams stronger (much stronger). Also, I think their chances are poor, when compared to the White Sox

The Reds are just awful- too bad, 'cause I love the Franchise, but Klu, Morgan, Robinson and Seaver land with other teams

Walters and Rose can watch it on TV [/quote:df6671c95b]

[color=red:df6671c95b]this is fine with me, it frees up good talent for the 12 franchises[/color:df6671c95b]

I came up with 18-20 man rosters for each franchise earlier. I've gotta go out now, but first chance i get, I'll post those with the destruction of the Phillies and somoe of the ideas todd has thrown out........

Critique of Andycummings65's rosters

Postby CHRISTIANSTOUGH » Tue Jan 15, 2008 10:39 pm

One issue with the Yanks is; can the PreWar Yanks pick up post war Yanks FA's for depth and back ups- they have a much smaller pool and are the weaker franchise

1)Pre-War Yanks-
Agree

2)Post War Yanks
Agree

3)Red Sox
Agree

4)Tigers
would sub Mullen for Lolich (Mullen's better)

5)Indians
would sub Lemon for Cy Young (Braves)

6)White Sox
Agree

Critique of Andycummings65's rosters B

Postby CHRISTIANSTOUGH » Tue Jan 15, 2008 11:02 pm

7) Dodgers
Agree

8) Giants
Agree
(although I think we should pick one btwn Herzog/Fletcher and leave Cepeda for the open markett, since the Giants have 5 relievers listed)

9) Pirates
Agree w/all excpt Fryman. Replace with Giusti.
He should go to Tigers, Newhouser to Cleveland (Newhouser is listed under both teams). I know the Pirates are loaded with righties, but that's their cross to bare.

10) Cubs
Agree
Pick Taylor over Holtzman

11) Cards
Agree with all excpt.
1B- should be R. Collins

12) Braves
Agree with all except;
3b- Should be Mathews/Bando
SP5- should be Young instead of Buhl

I'm back online and have read this thread and will be starting to review all data and I will do my best to make strong recommendation which I will expect the committee to review but with a little bit of latitude. Can you live with it or do we really have an issue.

I will ask for further contributions and make comments on others comments in my review of their work.

Discussion

Postby CHRISTIANSTOUGH » Tue Jan 15, 2008 11:11 pm

Actualy on the changes I suggested, I could see going with Young-Indians; Fryman-Pirates; Newhouser-Tigers; Buhl- Braves.

OR- how about Hess to Clev instead of Young. The Braves don't need the lefty and Clev does, plus the Braves lose their 3rd best ppitcher instead of there best, while Cleveland can still call on Lemon

Why?

Young makes the Indians better, so they need Newhouser less, that frees up Newhouser/Tigers-to-Fryman/Pirates. I forgot about Bando, having him makes the Braves more solid at third, which means they need the pitching less. Plus they already have a solid 3 starters, Buhl and Spahn can play match-ups.

I try to look at it like this; if the two teams were playing, who would I want to have? That helps me ballance it out. In a perfect world, I'd like to look at these teams and not know who is going to win;

Aside from the Post War Yankees- I haven't a clue

Great mix of bangers and small ball and tweeners.

All these teams scare me.

and yet another thing.

I think after we set on the rosters, we should revert to the 400/100/50 rule.

I do think it would be fun to open up the league to cup of coffee guys (anyone who played for that franchise regardless of AB/IP)
after game 81.
That way teams who are trailing can try and improve and stay interested.

Just a thought.
