in my last 1969 draft I had mccovey/aaron 1-2 and got neither and screwed up the whole team. if I miss out on yount AND gehrig here looks similar. hope if I get screwed I get screwed royally so I have a high waiver pick...

It looks like I'm going to get screwed on Carter and I can't remember if I went for Bando or Mathews... I may be getting screwed there.

Who's idea was this again?!

Gehrig

Postby The Biomechanical Man » Thu Dec 22, 2005 11:25 pm

I figured everyone would go for Ruth and Mantle in a homerun derby, so I went for Gehrig instead. Did everyone do the same? It sure is a nice dream to hope to get Mantle or Ruth in waivers. We'll see soon.

Help!!! I ended up with a pitchers' park lineup!  :x

Cobb
Shoeless Joe
Combs
Ozzie
Need I Say More

Oh well, I can console myself with either Teddy Ballgame or Joltin' Joe. Or should I go for pitching? :D

I have to say I lucked out with my picks. Usually the opposite happens for me in these drafts. The only lineup player I failed on this time was Mathews. I was trying to figure what players would be high on most lists, e.g. Mantle, Banks and Ruth; so I went after Mays and Gehrig. Wagner is a risky pick, because of injuries and errors, however he rocked for me in a past HR Derby as a place setter. I didn't leave myself much money for pitching for later in the season, a move that may haunt me later. If I falter it will be due to pitching. We shall see. 8)

BigMahon, I'm pretty impressed with what you ended up with considering your waivers position--Yaz, Ripper, Cobb, Rosen, etc. You must have lost out on your scrubs.

[quote:dd7ca10c2a="The Biomechanical Man"] Maybe I will send Larry a note asking him to change my draft rankings.

That was a joke.[/quote:dd7ca10c2a]

Egads. Don't give anyone any future ideas. From what I am hearing, TSN might just do that.

[b:0ef6c059e2]Homerun Derby 2006[/b:0ef6c059e2]
[list:0ef6c059e2][*:0ef6c059e2]$100m, DH, autodraft, waivers
[*:0ef6c059e2]Everyone must use one of these home stadiums: Baker Bowl, Fenway Park '67, Huntington Ave, Polo Grounds (either year), or Yankee Stadium '27.
[*:0ef6c059e2]From Game 1 to Game 99, you may have [u:0ef6c059e2]no pitchers[/u:0ef6c059e2] over $3m on your team.
[*:0ef6c059e2]Beginning at noon (Eastern) on the morning after Game 99, you may have [u:0ef6c059e2]no more than one pitcher[/u:0ef6c059e2] over $3m on your team at any time.[/list:u:0ef6c059e2]

Two changes for us to consider. Any change will have to be unanimous. If anyone objects to either change, that change will not be done.

[list=1:0ef6c059e2][*:0ef6c059e2]Proposed change:
[i:0ef6c059e2]You may not have a pitcher over $3m until after [b:0ef6c059e2]Game 96[/b:0ef6c059e2].[/i:0ef6c059e2]
(The reason for this change is to move the "pitcher frenzy" from the afternoon of Saturday January 28 to the afternoon of Friday January 27.)
[*:0ef6c059e2]Proposed change:
[i:0ef6c059e2]There will be a one-round live-draft after Game 99 (or 96).[/i:0ef6c059e2]
(By the current rules, the one-pitcher market is an "open frenzy" at that mid-season point. If we keep it that way, I can post a "go" message in our league when you can go, at noon Eastern according to www.time.gov.) However, a one-round draft could make things more orderly. If you vote for the draft, please specify if you'd prefer "worst record - to - best record" or a "random" draft order, based upon Pick-3 lottery results.[/list:o:0ef6c059e2]

yes, draft, and in inverse order of the standings. many of us dread what hath HAL wrought, and 99-games might be a LOOOONG time to wait for remedies. perhaps we should propose moving up to game 81 so we're at the halfway point?
