NEW SUMMER LEAGUE - AUCTION - CHAT ONLY

Postby GFDWARF07 » Wed Jan 07, 2009 5:45 pm

I think a random division assignment is best. We can use the same as our ballpark picks if everyone agrees - would be:

East: 1, 4, 7, 10

Central: 2, 5, 8, 11

West: 3, 6, 9, 12

I am dusting off a $50MM bill for The Babe....

I think if we largely progress through the players from the more expensive towards cheaper, that will alleviate the "waiting game" since the ultimate league will be a 200 mill cap

How many players at a time? When does the bidding on a player end? What increments?

We will need some pretty good guidelines for bidding as all the e-bayers are used to bidding with 30 seconds left and I could see it getting tough to call if there are two of the same bids right before a deadline.

BB previously suggested: $100K increments and that works fine, but you can obviously jump things up a lot faster. Probably a minimum starting bid of $500K per player. Start at the top of the list and have five players on the block at once (alternating Pitchers and Hitters every other player). Then he talked about a 24 hour period per grouping? That's fine unless we have some people traveling or out of touch during some times. If we did 5 every 24-48 hours it would take 60-120 days, respectively. But it's all open for discussion. If you miss one auction grouping you still have some room for error.

It would be nice to have a third party administrator - W will be available in about 13 days.....

Sounds like things are going well so far. Who is "W" anyway?

One way to handle the auction without a third party would be to establish a standard "closing time" for each auction period (daily, for example) - I suggest we throw which specific time out to the group, as we may have split shifters, mutiple time zones, etc. involved and want it to work for everyone to be fair). Then we could use this post to submit bids and if they are time stamped at or before the deadline, they "count". If two or more people make the same bid, the one time stamped earliest would win. If they come in after, they are thrown out. As long as we are consistent it will be fair. Then we can start another thread to show the current rosters for each team and update that each day for people to reference - I agree that is where the fun and strategy will come in - seeing how your division is filling out.

Just throwing ideas out. We also need to ask people to bid the same way every time, to take out some more variables. i.e. copy all five names up for bid and update the players you are bidding on with your current bid, then submit. That way we won't have to look back through ten posts to see what the current bids are per player.

We will get into a rhythm I'm sure and it will work. You did well in preaching PATIENCE in soliciting owners and we will really need that. We are all in this for fun but we are all competetive as well, so we need to work out the nuances up front to keep it fun for all.

BobBoone - it's your league and you should keep up with documenting the rules and bidding guidelines - these are just ideas from me. You're the man to build consensus and lead us!

I'd be happy to update the rosters daily if you'd like once we get going. Anyone would be fine, but one person should do that to keep consistency.

If we do different parks for each then I'm out for sure!

Just kidding ... have to keep the 2nd best Howser on his toes. I really do think that unique stadiums is the way to go.

As for the bidding, hopefully we can come up with a way that you don't get the "ebay" bidding happening. I know I can't always be at the computer waiting and would hate to see someone out bidding me at the last second all the time. Any ideas on how we could do this??

From this point forward, I would like to have all the posts from DHowser ignored! What is up with KIDS these days?

Other than the post from the KID, DHowser, it would appear we are off to a good start here. It would also seem as though we have a majority ruling on having separate ball parks.

So, why don't we get the ball rolling some more here, and start the selection of ball parks and divisions. The idea of using a randomizer for both ball parks and divisions has been suggested, and I agree with that.

This would be our first giant step forward.

I think we could set like 9 pm eastern as the closing time each day for picks. That way we really don't need a 3rd party administrator.

All for unique parks and random assignments of divisions.

So we're still using 80m to bid with right?

Ready to start auction any time.

I like the suggestion from DonFESQ of having a set time for each day of picks, and 9:00 p.m. Eastern would work fine with me. It would be an inconvenience on Thursdays because I am usually watching Judge Judy on TV, but I can live with it.
