Theme of the Month January League Peaceful Interlude

Postby novie » Tue Dec 28, 2010 4:37 pm

Before this gets too far along.... Bontom can you take a look at the time period and players please.

In this pool there are ONLY 7 hitters available in the top 50. Only 7 hitter over 10M.

Perhaps this needs to be reworked before we move any further..... I think either the cap needs lowered or the pool expanded to either include NeL or perhaps all players in the pre-war pool.

If the cap is lowered, then my first pick WILL change from Hornsby.

My gut tells me that we will have several expensive backups... which isn't a bad thing, but just want to put this all out there before we get too far in to see a potential problem.

I think a lower cap would be better, although 100 million is out since that's our current cap. its a pretty limited pitching pool, especially relief pitchers, almost all of whom are 2m or less and mediocre at best (sound familiar?!)
I think 80m would work fine, and would prefer lower cap to adding players, but its bontom's theme, so he rules. just an added suggestion.

the player pool does seem pretty shallow after really looking at it for the first time today. Sure seem to be a very small number of quality players.

Don't really care what we do for caps. So we can't do 100m because that's the cap of the previous theme? Is that a rule of this league?

And this is DH right?

Yea Don, can't repeat cap in consecutive seasons.

Pool is very thin for a large cap.... wouldn't suprise me to see lineups/staffs that look like an 80M league.

And the 7 high ticket hitters will likely still find their way into the league.

I went in and dropped Hornsby to make sure we settle things before any more picks are made.

Some facts - the sum of the salaries of the top 180 hitters in the pool is a little over $850 million. The sum of the salaries of the top 72 4-day starters plus the top 48 pure relievers is just under $460 million.

This puts the total possible salary for the top 25 players for 12 teams at about $1,310 million, or just under $110 million per team.

About all the $120 million salary cap would do would be to restrict in-season add-drops, not that there would be any with the pool so picked over.

I vote for an $80 million cap.

Sorry. I live on the West Coast, and have house guests who arrived this evening. This is my first chance to get online. If everybody agrees to an $80 mil cap, we'll change. I would have preferred $100 mil, but couldn't do that, so I guessed $120 mil. If anybody objects to the $80 mil, speak out--otherwise, we'll just do it.

well, can't we do like 95 or even 105m. We can do something close to 100m without actually being 100m right?

I dont care one way or another about the cap and all the issues may indeed be valid BUT

My one concern is that we stop this pattern of as soon as someone comes up with a theme that immediately everyone is chiming in to change it. Unless they ask lets not keep doing it. Maybe its just me still feeling like .... but it kind of drives me crazy lol

Yea, lets go with what he wants. That is what this theme is all about..It's the same for everyone.

I say keep it at 120.

Yeah, whatever Bontomn wants to do is fine with me; it is his theme. Let's just get the draft rolling. :)
