I agree that management of this draft has not been ideal. On the other hand, individual managers have not exactly been attentive, either.

Like somebody said, let's take a deep breath and move on. The idea about scrapping the supplemental draft in a 24-team league does seem reasonable, though, so I would like to ask for a vote on that.

I did draft 2 guys, more or less on time, but one was for 2010 and the other (at best) will be for 2011. There's no reason I could not have waited for the annual draft to do that.

After the current supplemental draft ends, should there be other supplemental drafts in the following years?

I think that the issue of future years supplemental drafts seems secondary for me. The question is what to do with this years? I would be OK redoing the draft, and I would be OK just living with the draft as is I am not OK with cancelling it all together.

In all drafts, I think the key is good, timely communication, and then holding with agreements around timing. For instance, I think it would be good to announce next years check in and draft times, by the end of our season, send them out in PM's and e-mail as well as league mail, and then when we get there, stick to the deadlines we've set, even if some guys miss then.
Part of our problem in the sup draft, is that we waited for managers to make drops way after the deadline, and then everything got behind, I think we have to expect managers to be responsible.

I like the supplemental draft as it gives poor teams another way to catch up. But I am not attached, as it does mean more work for the commish.

No, honestly I told Chuck we should get rid of it a long time ago. I think the bones have been picked clean, only a prospect draft would make any sense.

Also it looks like we might need 1-2 replacements. R-Dave never has shown up and CATom has not replied since he quit.

Hi,

I feel like if we are going to play two seasons which we have already voted on (and it came out yes) that we have to have a draft between the seasons. It gives the bottom feeder teams a chance to pick up some next year type players, while the top guys might be picking up someone that could help them with a platoon that they hope could put them over the top.

[quote:8bda5903db="7smitty7"][quote:8bda5903db]then looking back on in a week or two and there is already the whole draft completed is kinda horse dunk[/quote:8bda5903db]

Maybe it's me, but why are people not checking in daily? If you are in a keeper league and take it even somewhat seriously, why can't you check the forums once a day to see what's going on? It takes all of three minutes - tops. I may be the extreme one who checks in 5x a day, but how can you not check in for "a week or two"? Especially when you know something may be coming up. As far as taking what's left, there isn't a whole lot of talent there to begin with. Outside of 4 or 5 guys (maybe) - it's a crap shoot.

I understand this draft may not have begun under the best circumstances, but this is a league in its first calendar year and kinks need to be worked out. This is one on them. But, this is not a reason to give up on a league, especially when none of the players available are game changers.

CATom - I will give you Jesse Crain if you want right now, and take someone else if that will keep you in the league, as long as you try to check in more than once a week or two. If not, maybe we'd be better off with an owner who would pay more attention.

Sorry if this offends anyone, but it's just what I think.[/quote:8bda5903db]

Smitty, I can appreciate how you feel and (believe it or not) I've felt that way myself on occasion; but sometimes life, work, and technology get in the way of keeping up. Somehow I just simply missed that we had this draft at this time and since it has been unexpectedly brutal for me to keep an open line, I've been sporadic in my managing of my Keepers this past month. I do not know if I held things up, but I've been passed over, so now it is my problem to go back and try to find out how to put in late picks.

I actually had worked out a list of possible picks based on our last rosters received, but apparently neglected to send it to anyone. Had I known (or remembered) that I had to make picks here I would have tried to leave proxies--- with all the flurry of activity at the Museum and my travels to sites connected to the end of the war here in Japan (this is my Super Bowl and lasts from about 14 August through the 22 or so), I missed the boat. I apologize to you and all my fellow managers in the 24 team league of which I am very pleased to be a part. I'll try to get things straightened out soon.

Hi everyone, before I gave my two cents I wanted to see a few more comments. I think we should reconsider the 2nd season altogether. I am very busy and have a hard time keeping up with the rosters, draft, ideas and complaints. I will offer to continue to stay on as commish, unless someone else would like to step up, but only if we drop to one season per year. Otherwise, I will need to resign at the end of this next season. I just do not have the time.

By the way, I think we should all thank litangel for doing his best to keep the draft moving in a timely matter and kaviksdad for helping with the rosters. "You can please some of the people all of the time and all the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all the time." I'll disagree slightly. Speaking from experience, you can't please some of the people any of the time...
