Here's the Rule concerning Time during the Free Agent Draft..

[quote:4546f0abe0][i:4546f0abe0]5) There is no clock for Round 1 of each Annual Free Agent draft. All subsequent rounds will operate with a 3 hour clock.[/i:4546f0abe0][/quote:4546f0abe0]

This is something that isn't in the rules.

Whether we have a clock on the weekend is solely at the discretion of the league commish.

Normally a clock only runs on weekends when a) the draft has progressed slowly and the commish wants to get it done; or b) we're up against some time constraint that makes a clock a necessity.

Neither seems the case here, and since Ray says no clock then...

THERE IS NO CLOCK - and therefore, no skipping

I believe there was an announcement at the start of the draft that the clock would not run on weekends. With March Madness and world events, some of us (especially me!!!!) need the break.

I will withdraw my pick if you want, but guys, we really have to start following our own rules in this league. Why do we even have them if we're always going to circumvent them with stuff about "in my other league" or "normally it's done that way?" It's also not acceptable for someone to make a ruling [u:f1786d7ef7]after[/u:f1786d7ef7] the fact. Nor is it acceptable to say "[i:f1786d7ef7]I believe"[/i:f1786d7ef7] something was said. Even if it [i:f1786d7ef7]had[/i:f1786d7ef7] been said, it should be added to the rulebook so that if a person has a question they can go to the rules and get a definitive answer.

Well I'll remember that saying "I believe" is unacceptable. I was just trying to get a rule clarification. When we began the draft, we were told there would be no clock on weekends, but being new to the league, I thought it best to politely raise an issue of rule clarification. In the future I'll just keep questioning and belief to myself. If you had such an issue with the rule, why didn't you raise it when it was posted differently from the rulebook? I've certainly learned my lesson.

I really don't care what the rule is, but I take great offense at being told what I can and cannot say.

Peter...
My comment wasn't even directed at you. So there's no need to be offended.
If you asked for a rule clarification, I don't remember it, but I think it's exactly the right thing to do. I also think that if someone asks for a clarification because the rule is unclear, then the rulebook should be revised to reflect that clarification. There's no way everyone is going to remember what was said on page 52 or whatever.

Billy - The reason this isn't in the rules is because it DOES NOT MERIT being in the rules. We've been through this before.

We could make a rule about absolutely everything we do, but who wants to read a book trying to find out an answer to a specific question? When we first began these types of leagues we had very few rules at all - we basically just crossed all those bridges when we came to them and if it was major we voted. If it was minor the Commish made the decision, as is his right in matters like this. Whether the clock runs on weekends is, and has been, solely the decision of the Commish in all the leagues I'm in and all that I'm aware of. As another "forever" vet, I'm sure Nythawk can back me on this.

I can understand your frustration at the whole "that's the way it's always been done" reasoning, but this whole league is a product of "what's always been done." The rules have been evolving over the last 5 years in these leagues, and when a rule change or addition is necessary we deal with it.

But we don't reinvent the wheel every year.

Can we just get back to drafting in at least a timely fashion. I know there's apparently "no clock" on weekends, but even if there isn't, it's been all day since a pick was made....
