[quote:a1d38ea5a2="JKolak"]That point system is interesting. In my opinion, a playoff berth should be worth 10 points and the league championship 20 additional points. Artemus had a great season. However, any great season that falls short of a championship should not be awarded with more points than the team that won the championship.
On the other hand, I am a bit late on this and should have checked how this thing would be scored when it was first posted.[/quote:a1d38ea5a2]
I have to say that I dis-agree with JKolak's assesment of the point system.
A) It was posted over 2 months ago that this was the system to be used. If there was any dis-agreement, it should have been discussed then. Very difficult to say we need a different point system after the fact (esp. since Joe would be the one benefitting the most from a change).
B) This is the point system that has been in place for the "Player's Tour" for a few years now. The system was reached as a compromise between the "pro season record" crowd and the "winning the ring" proponents. Each side is given merit under this set-up.
C) On a personal note, I am a pretty firm believer that the measure of skill in this game manifests itself over the long haul. To assemble and manage a team that succeeds over the course of 162 games, where the vagarities of the dice rolls tends to even out, is a truer indication of skill than winning a couple of short 5 and 7 games series. JKolak and ArtieRex played a 7 game series to decide the championship of our 2001 league. "Firsky" got the rolls in game 7, and hence the title. Congrats Joe, and well earned! But that 1 game shouldn't overshadow Alexx's regular season accomplishments where his 106 wins would have put him 10 games in front of your team.
