Game I & II Recaps - Monarchs vs. Sounds

Postby ArrylT » Tue May 30, 2006 9:38 am

In the Monarchs/Sounds series, the Pennyrile Sounds start off with a complete game shutout by ace Roger Clemens, winning 4-0. Clemens was brilliantly efficient, allowing only 7 baserunners while K'ing 9.

However the Monarchs storm back in Game II. Despite being down 4-0, and possibly getting shutout on consecutive games, the Monarchs dug deep and powered their way back into the game with 2 2 run HRs in the 7th. A. Jones gave the Monarchs the lead with a solo shot in the 8th, and insurance runs were added in the 9th by Guerrero & Sweeney. All Monarch Runs were driven in by the long ball!

Game I & II Recaps - Hardballers vs. Strike Three

Postby ArrylT » Tue May 30, 2006 9:46 am

In a tight low-scoring affair, the Hardballers were able to steal homefield advantage by holding off a later Strike Three rally. J. Benoit pitched 6+ efficient innings, and earned the win, despite an attempted blown save by J. Rincon when Papi Ortiz smacked one of his pitches deep for a 2 run blast. Alas that was all the scoring they would accomplish as Lidge came in following and shut down Strike Three for the remaining 1 1/3rd innings for the save.

Back on their heels, Strike Three was unable to properly regroup, and once again allowed the Hardballers to take the early lead, while being shutdown until the late innings. Unfortunately by the time Strike Three was able to attempt an effective rally, it was much too late as the Hardballers had amassed a 6-0 lead, and despite a 9th inning HR by Rowand, would win 6-2 and take a commanding 2-0 lead. Strike Three is now 1 strike away from being called out on strikes.

AP - Hopkinsville, KY -
Fans are asking for the manager's resignation after a Grady Littleesque bullpen approach bringing in Orlando Hernandez in the 7th inning with the game on the line with a fully rested deep effective bullpen twiddling their collective thumbs on the bullpen bench. When questioned about his decision, Gapper could only be heard muttering something about the SOB HAL. :? Advantage handed to Monarchs. May they return the favor. :D

I would if I could, problem is that I don't have a deep and effective anything in this team. Just 3 OFers who can whack the ball a mile every now and then...will make sure to tell my guys no to hit homers 700 feet away and off the park...500 feet is enough. 8)

You have a pretty good team there.

Game III Recap - Hardballers vs. Strike Three

Postby ArrylT » Wed May 31, 2006 9:29 am

Strike Three fouled off a lot of pitches and fought the count as hard as they could, but in the end were unable to avoid getting the third strike. After a rash of scoring in the early innings ... with some fans fainting with surprise at seeing Strike Three score earlier than the 7th Inning ... the bullpens took over and carried a 4-4 game into extra innings.
Strike Three was not able to get a man on in the 10th, and never got a second chance as Jose Guillen belted the 6th pitch he saw over the fence to send the Hardballers to the World Series!

Game III & IV Recaps - Monarchs vs. Sounds

Postby ArrylT » Wed May 31, 2006 9:39 am

With 1 swing of the bat, the Pennyrile Sounds were able to regain homefield advantage, and force at least a Game V back home, when Teixeira hit what would turn out to be the game winning home run in the 6th. The Sounds would add an insurance run in an exciting 8th, and that would be enough for Webb & Hoffman to seal the deal.

Game III

By now, the other Semi-Final had been determined, so all eyes of the World were on this series, wondering if the Pennyrile Sounds could seal the deal, or if the Monarchs would be able to force a Game V.

Things started off good for the Sounds, as they scored a pair of runs in the 2nd. However the potent Monarchs lineup woke up in the bottom half of that inning and pounded out 6 runs, all of which came with 2 outs! The Sounds tried to rebound, but were only able to score 1 more run, while the Monarchs completely put the game out of reach with another 6 run barrage in the 8th.

It all comes down to tonight - with a winner take all Game V!
