ATG IV 16 event Franchise League

Postby novie » Mon Feb 23, 2009 8:08 pm

I'm in no hurry to start season 10, HOWEVER it would be nice to know what it is we are doing for it. My work schedule as well as my business makes it difficult at times to put in the time to do research. So, having a break is great but it would be nice to be able to do the "other" research work in the meantime.... and it will be March Madness very soon!

Suggestions for season 10

Postby jpgavin » Mon Feb 23, 2009 9:05 pm

Make suggestions here, we'll vote this weekend.

1. [b:c55f85cf52]Reverse Wheel of Fortune[/b:c55f85cf52]- No one can a have player on their team who's last name starts with R,S,T,L,N,E. (pjatscfy)

2. How about a [b:c55f85cf52]live draft[/b:c55f85cf52]? I think we should have at least one for our 16 events, and a season in which no one makes the rules is probably best so that we can still have lots of creativity. Since there are no $$ restrictions with the live drafts, this may also encourage a bit more in-season player movement via FAs and trades. (AeroDave)

"There's no $$ limit on live drafts, but there IS one in this setup -- a $125 million cap." I had put a $125 mil cap on in the original post. I think it helps protect the "small market teams". But, for the season we vote on the rule, if people want to vote in a 200 mil cap, I'd be ok with it for that one season. Also, there's no reason we can't use Major Deegan's site to do a live draft with a cap. People will have to weigh in with their opinion about a full (I'm assuming 16 rounds?) live draft. Some people's work schedules may make live drafts very difficult.

3. [b:c55f85cf52]$80 million roster restricted to players carded to your team[/b:c55f85cf52].

* 5/10/20 waivers.

* Frenzy, since no one else will have access to your players.

* A ballpark from either deadball or pre-WWII.

* 5-man pitching rotation, at least two of which are left-handed, valued at no more than $20 million total.

* A starting catcher with no better than a 2 fielding rating and 0 arm, with a backup valued at no more than $1.25 and the best fielding/arm ratings you can find.

* A starting middle infielder with no better than a 2 fielder rating.

* A starting corner infielder with a no better than a 3 fielder rating. (majicmg)

4. [b:c55f85cf52]Minimum requirements for team eligibility[/b:c55f85cf52]:

Carded to franchise

OR

Career totals with franchise:

Hitters: 2500 PAs
Starting pitchers: 1000 IP
Relief pitchers: 250 IP

I think these rules would go well with an unlimited salary cap (or at least $125M) and DH. (AeroDave)

5. [b:c55f85cf52]Mid season frenzy theme[/b:c55f85cf52]

Advanced 200/DH 5/10/20

Games 1-81

Every player on your team must have an OBP =/> .325
Every SP must have a WHIP =/< 1.40 and RP =/< 1.50

Games 81-162

We'll set a certain time, and any player who ever played for your franchise is open play. It's basically a mid-season frenzy. (pjatscfy)

Again, 200 million cap would require a vote.

6. [b:c55f85cf52]Post WWII and expansion era[/b:c55f85cf52]

Autodraft
100mil/DH/waivers

Any player that played for your franchise (carded or not) is eligible for your roster. The twist is that we use the post WW2 + expansion player set only... (2cityfan)

7. [b:c55f85cf52]Half lefty half righty theme[/b:c55f85cf52]

100 Mil DH
Frenzy

Half your roster are lefthanded and half are righthanded and/or 4R,4L and 1S in starting lineup. If we do the half roster then switch hitters can count as either R or L for your quota. If you want a 25 man roster, a switch hitter has to be the odd man.

Any player who ever played for the franchise.
Stadium must be from your franchise.

I think this would make some intereseting choices in pitching, starting lineup and bench players. I also think it would be interesting to see how the even number of righty-lefty players works out with the franchise ballparks. I think all franchises would have enough righty and lefty players available but getting the necessary lefties on the roster would make for some difficult choices for some positions.

We could have an autodraft but I would like to have a 2 or 4 round draft. 1 or 2 righty rounds and 1 or 2 lefty rounds. (rosenthm)

8. [b:c55f85cf52]One good pitcher, one good hitter[/b:c55f85cf52]

60 mil/DH/waivers/ 5-10-20

Every team must carry a SP worth over 8 mil and a hitter worth over 9 mil. for the entire season. The total salary of these two players must be at least 19 mil. These will be selected in a 2 round draft (one round pitchers, one round hitters). Draft order determined randomly for each round. Hitters round 1st. You may not carry any other players worth over 7 million. (jpgavin)

If you suggested one of these rules a couple of months ago and need to edit it, go ahead. Why don't we let people add rules through Thursday at midnight.

Check your rule and make sure it includes cap, DH rule, waivers vs frenzy, and FA pick up penalty.

On Friday, each manager votes for three rules to include in the final vote, you [b:c55f85cf52]can't[/b:c55f85cf52] vote for your own rule.

Final vote will be on Sunday night. Each manager gets one vote. You [b:c55f85cf52]can[/b:c55f85cf52] vote for your own rule.

Then we'll give people a week or so to do their research. We'll start the draft or whatever is required on March 9th. Let's shoot for a start date of March 23, so we'll load no earlier than March 14. Does this work for everyone?

Vote on salary cap for season 10

Postby jpgavin » Mon Feb 23, 2009 11:00 pm

Since a couple of the suggested rules for season 10 include a salary cap of 200 mil, we should vote on whether or not to increase the max cap to 200 mil for this one season only. Vote below.

Increase max cap to 200 million for season 10 only:

Keep max cap at 125 for this season:
jpgavin (sorry AeroDave and pjatscfy, but I don't think the Red Sox would do well at 200 mil)

No on the 200M cap. Too many teams are screwed with this.

Would like to throw out that whatever rules we use, I'd like to see us be able to protect some carded players prior to them being eliible for other managers to pick up. Could incorporate this into a live draft....

[b:e1cc8668a6]Idea: [/b:e1cc8668a6]100M cap, live draft. 20 Rounds. First 6 or 8 rounds are just posted here as protected players (and they MUST be on your opening day roster). Those can be entered into the site simply. As for non-carded eligibility, perhaps 1000 AB, 500IP for SP and 100 IP for RP.

No on 200 Mil salary cap.

OK on live draft, but would like to have something in place to protect the small salary cap teams and see some equity in division lineups. I think 1000 abs, 500 ip criteria is a bit high. I've enjoyed including the cup of coffee players after a certain point in the draft.

I'm fine with 125. I mentioned the 200 cap before I knew that we'd decided on 125 being the limit.

I don't think a rule should be made to protect the small cap teams. If the theme doesn't help you team then you're stuck with making it the best possible team you can. I've already been stuck with a small capped team, but the theme wasn't adjusted to help me out. I don't think we should start now. That's my thoughts, but of course, this should be discussed with everyone in the league.

majicmg: No -- and simply forget about teams like the Orioles and White Sox. Does anyone really want to lose 100 games that badly?

I suggested the live draft to combine both the excitement of the selection process and to not worry about $$. Maybe we can still do that by having a 125M cap but then not have any requirements after 40 games or something. I'd just like to be able to move players that aren't performing well (via FA or trade) without worrying about the cap hit.

I definitely agree that we need to incorporate something in the Season 10 rule to protect carded players for the franchise. Some managers may never get the opportunity to use some players, and a lot of other times that opportunity only comes along once.
