Prospect draft, Am I missing something?

Postby Ninersphan » Tue Apr 01, 2008 6:10 pm

I'm not gonna say who but there is a guy out there that has not been taken yet that's listed as a top 20 prospect in at least 2 differnet sources, top 40 in five. I'm wondering if something happend to him that I can't find out about, That you all know something. That there's some secret website that has the information that I can't access. :?

'Cause I can't figure out why he's being bypassed. He' not in an area I really need, but I might be compelled to take just cause he's still there.

Anyone wanna guess who I'm referring to?

And WHY, if we have not yet picked, already picked, and are waiting for the next round WOULD we guess publicly?! :x

And you almost answered your own question when you said it wasn't a "need" of yours. Maybe he wasn't for some of us either!

I am fully aware of a guy who is higher rated that either of the two players I drafted, but I had a need at CF, and a need to make sure I had the Texas catching situation covered, and THAT was more important to me.

And besides, don't be too sure that THE guy in question is going to end up at the position he plays now, because I think he probably won't! And if I am right, the new position is one that is easy to fill from year to year.

In other words, some people aren't as dumb as you make them out to be! :P

Yes, Sandy is right if we are all talking about the same guy. I considered him at my pick as well, but I have a guy who plays the same position that this guy will likely end up at, so I passed on him too.

Also, he may be 3-4 years out & that is a long time to wait in these leagues. Close-to-majors value needs to be weighed against overall talent/ceiling on a team-by-team basis with each GM putting more priority on 1 side vs the other.

Based on both of your comments, I think I'm talking about someone else. Especailly you sandy. And don't get me wrong, I think everyone has made great choices, there are at least half a dozen guys that I wanted that are off the board. I'm just suprised this guy isn't that's all. He's close to the majors, 2009 projected, so that's not it. and with only 4 slots left to pick ( It's only a 2 round draft don't forget. ) I didn't think it was that big a deal to get some discussion goin'.

But again given all the factor's I'm scratchin' my head...

So is the guy I am talking about, but he is the [i:9e705b898a][b:9e705b898a]ONLY[/b:9e705b898a][/i:9e705b898a] guy [b:9e705b898a]NOT[/b:9e705b898a] yet taken in our draft, that is on almost everybody's Top 20 list, and even on most Top 10's (which is higher than the lists you were quoting btw).

Needless to say, I am hoping that he goes [b:9e705b898a]undrafted[/b:9e705b898a] this time around.

[b:9e705b898a]This just in:[/b:9e705b898a] He didn't! :x :(

Yeah McGee was the guy Niners was talking about, I was off. I did hear there is a slight chance he becomes an RP though, but he's high caliber.

I closed us out with De Los Santos, I imagine he gets a callup to the A's at some point this year. On to the reg season!

Actually, given the glut of Rays sp prospects and the fact that McGee doesn't have a really reliable second pitch, I hear it's much higher than a "slight" chance.

I also Disagree about DLSantos. He struggled in his few spring outings and was sent only to High A to start with and I think the most he gets is a cup of coffee myself. Doesn't mean I wouldn't take him -- but I don't think he'll be factor in 2009 SOM is all.

There were also a couple of others that were high on those lists, but like Jennings they are a few years away (and we only get two years to keep these guys).

My two biggest future holes are CF and C (along with LF) and I think I answered them in the draft and the FA round.
