World Series Recap: Game VI

In another tight game, the fifth game decided by 1 run, J. Benoit pitches the Hardballers into a 7th and deciding game by tossing 7 shutout innings and earning his 3rd win of the postseason. If it were up to this intrepid reporter, Benoit would win World Series MVP, and had this been Game VII, he most likely would have!
The Hardballers scored their only run, and the only run of the game for that matter, in the 2nd, when Mondesi was able to single home Sexson, who had led off the inning with a hit.
Cora tried to rally his Monarchs in the 8th, but the Hardballers called upon Lidge to seal the deal, and he was almost lights out - retiring 6 of 7 batters he faced, including a key K of Bay to set the tone in the 9th.
The teams face off in a 1 game showdown in Georgia to determine who will be the 2006 MLB World Series Champion!

World Series Recap: Game VII

What a Series! This one will go down in the history books - 6 games decided by 1 run! And Game VII will surely be a classic for the ages!
Unlike previous games where pitching & defense seemed to be the order of the day, this game had plenty of offense. The game did start off looking like it would be a low scoring affair ... then all hell broke loose in the bottom of the sixth!
Down 2-0, the Hardballers made a pinch hitting change that started a 7 run rally. Hatteberg, pinch hitting for Timlin, who had come in relief for Bautista, started things off with a single. Giles drew a walk on 4 straight pitches, and then V. Martinez started the scoring with a single that drove in Hatteberg, and scampered to 2nd on the throw home. Miguel Cabrera followed suit and slashed a single to score Giles & Martinez, to give the Hardballers a 3-2 lead.
However the inning was not yet over, except for Halladay, who was relieved by Peralta. One out later Floyd belted a double and then Guillen drove in Cabrera with a bloop single to pad the lead to 4-2. Then Kotsay, not the most prolific of sluggers, fought Peralta to 6 pitches before blasting a 3 run home run to give the home team a 7-2 lead. Reyes came up to bat, and for the second time that inning, hit into an out.
With the score 7-2, one would normally think that this is all she wrote. But, one would be underestimating the drive within the Monarchs. Their passion to be Kings of Baseball had gotten them this far, and they were not yet ready to give up.
Rincon took over for Timlin. Perhaps not the best of relief decisions, as Rincon immediately got into trouble with the strong Monarchs lineup. Jack Wilson bopped a single, and the rattled Rincon hit Ozuna, when Ozuna would likely have hit into a double play. Graffanino hit a texas leaguer to load the bases, and Rincon was promptly removed for Rudy "Notre Dame Rules" Seanez, who was blessed (or cursed depending on your point of view) to face the heart of the Monarchs lineup.
The ever dangerous Jason Bay came to bat, and quickly laced a 2 run double to close the score to 7-4. Guerrero flirted with Seanez, causing Seanez to get all giggly and toss a wild pitch, scoring another run, before Vlad the Impaler impaled a ball into a single and made it a 1 run game again.
Mike Sweeney followed next, with another single. Then two outs later, another prolific slugger known as Mike Redmond, he of 3 HR all season long, came to bat. It took but 2 pitches for Slugger Mike to find a pitch he wanted, and slaughtered a pitch out of the park to make it 8-7 KC. Mercifully enough Gabe Gross ended the inning with a ground out.
The Monarchs would add to their lead in the 9th, when Andruw Jones slammed a 2 run HR to make it 10-7. Nonetheless the Hardballers had not given up the fight yet, even with Jose ''Automatic Out" Reyes leading off. Reyes's quick feet caused the inexperienced Ozuna to misfield his ground ball, and Reyes was safe on 1st.
Up next was Raul Mondesi, pinch hitting for J. Benoit, who had been called into relief due to the fast pace Georgia had gone through its relief squad. Mondesi fought Sauerbeck for 6 pitches before electrifying the home crowd with a 2 run blast to close the gap once again to a 1 run ball game, 10-9.
Giles & Martinez followed with back-to-back walks and 1 out later Sexson loaded the bases with yet another walk. It was bases loaded for Cliff Floyd. However Floyd, being a Met fan, and hating life in Georgia, took this opportunity to weakly strike out. However the Hardballers still had Jose Guillen to bat. Unfortunately for the Hardballers, Jose Guillen was a closet Nationals fan, and despite facing a LH RP who couldnt pitch to a RH Batter if his life depended upon it (which it did since the KC Mafia had a contract all set to put on Sauerbecks life), was unable to hit the ball out of the infield.
The Hardballers collapsed where they were - shocked that the season was over. Fans every where were crying. The KC Monarchs, worried they would either drown in the flood of tears, or get slaughtered by the unruly mob outside the park, quickly shook the hands of their erstwhile & valiant opponents, before quickly vamoosing back to KC to celebrate their hard won Championshp
