[quote:037e8ffe27="Hakmusic"]What is the under/over on the number of Yankee 1/2 squads Sykes drafts? I'm going with the over no matter what it is![/quote:037e8ffe27]

5 was the winning bet. Vegas line going in was 5 1/2. Would have been 6 as I would have taken the 61 NYY pitchers over the 82 ATL boys. :P

dacelo is the only owner under any sort of restriction this round as he [b:23cfa48df4]MUST[/b:23cfa48df4] draft a 3rd pitching squad ... sort of a shame really, because that decreases the likelyhood of him being the only owner with over 300m in player value.

On the other hand, unless there is a really cheap half squad out there for geekor to find, all owners will have over 200m in player value.

on dacelo's race to 300M... there are still 4 pitching half-teams available with more than the 27M+ required to push his total over 300M... we shall not identify which four half-teams those are, other than the fact that one (the highest remaining value) IS A YANKEE team. with apologies to both sykes and arrylT who seem the most likely to envy others taking NY teams.

Sykes has already made his 8th pick, and my last pick will be a suprise to anyone who has figured out my theme yet ... otherwise I'll explain it after my last pick. :)

rooftoppa... if you are drafting a hitting half-team, you could go ahead and make your selection ahead of dacelo if you would like to... since dacelo must take a pitching half-team... that way we keep moving

ok my 8th pick has been made and while it ran contrary to my theme it was made solely for 2-3 reasons which I will explain soon.

Anyway - in case you have not already figured out - I drafted every half squad, in Rounds I-VII from the NYC area. This came about after I decided to take the '61 NYY Hitting in Round I.

Had any NY team gone before my turn, my team would look completely different, as it was the fact that I drafted the first NY half squad that started me on my idea of limiting myself to NYC squads only. I almost changed my mind after Sykes & a couple other owners drafted Yankee hitting squads later that round & in Round II, but decided to stay the course with 2 exceptions.

So I intentionally limited myself to the following 13 squads*

BKN '24
BKN '53
NYG '11
NYG '21
NYG '34
NYM '69
NYM '86
NYY '27
NYY '39
NYY '50
NYY '61
NYY '78
NYY '86

Exception #1: If too many NY squads were taken, I would expand it to include teams that HAD played in NYC but had moved ... so in other words I would have also selected teams from

LA '65
LA '77
SF '62

Exception #2: To reward myself for limiting myself to a pool of 26 half squads, I decided that, if it was available, to pick a half squad with a ballpark that really helped out my LH hitters ... namely that of '34 Cleveland, with its 16 LH BP HR vs. 2 RH BP HR (but still having enough ballpark singles to keep the RH Hitters AVG respectable).

So besides being a reward of sorts, and having a ballpark that I want to play in, CLE '34 pitching also has some RH SP that I can use if I ever decide to play in Polo Grounds '11.

---

* - I am seriously thinking, of eventually getting around to running a theme league where we could only live draft players from those 13 squads, and be limited to a very small # of players from other parks (only to ensure tsn requirements could be abided by).

On another note ... one of my toughest calls was to go with NYY '61 in Round VII.

I was thinking about NYY '78 Hitting, but really only wanted that half squad for T. Munson, so maybe Sykes will lend him to me some day. ;) Furthermore, although I was tempted to take NYG '34 Pitching, and get a true sluggers park, I wanted another solid LH Reliever more than I needed C. Hubbell with my previous selection of Guidry and the '78 NYY Pitching.

Looks like I made the right call, since Sykes alluded to having considered NYY '61 pitching over ATL '82.

I suppose I should apologize to Sykes for going with a theme that kept stealing some of the NY squads he wanted ... ;)

But at the same time feel free to thank me for having done so ... since otherwise a lot of you would not have the current teams you do because I'd have taken certain "more valuable" half squads rather than letting them go by every round as I focused on building my NYC squad. :P

Btw the name of my team for Season I will fittingly be called Montreal Metropolis. Montreal because all of my ATG teams (except a very few) start with Montreal, and Metropolis since that is a reference to the greatest city in the world - NYC. :)
