Here's the game 5 writeup...
[quote:5d57782ca7="HAL"]In an great finish the Beowulf Agate 27 came back in the top of the ninth and held on to win over the Chico Wonder Boys by a score of 3 to 2 at Forbes Field '27.
Beowulf came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on 2 hits. Mickey Mantle started the inning off right when he laced a one-base hit. Hank Aaron came to the plate and smashed a two-run homer (his 3rd of the season). Beowulf rapped out 7 hits for the afternoon.
The win was credited to Sandy Consuegra(1-1) who went 3 innings allowing 1 run. Dizzy Dean(1-1) was the loser. He surrendered only 3 runs and 7 hits in 9 innings.
JetMan was not very talkative after his team's tough loss. 'I'm not in the mood for questions, but I'm sure Petrosian will be glad to talk about the game as long as you have questions to ask.'[/quote:5d57782ca7]
Congrats to Petrosian & tkl33 on their superb game 5 wins...
Now it'll be Petro's HR-hitting Polo34 club (297 HR's on the season, led by Mantle, Stargell and AAron) against tkl's squad led by Pete Alexander & Addie Joss (combined 46-22, 2.4 ERA)... Pete & Addie's combined salary of 24M is almost as much as Petro's entire staff salary (27M), so it truly will be two different-styled clubs facing each other.
Though playing in Forbes ('09 version), tkl's Hummers have some power too- they hit 99 HR's, led by Banks with 41. The Hummers have two lefties in the offensive lineup, and both are lefty-balanced (jojo 2L, Waner 1L) so Petro's SP strengthens a little as four of his 6 SP's are righty-balanced (Ames, Barber, Grant, Hunter).
Because Agate is the wildcard, they will surrender home field advantage to the Hummers despite having 8 more regular season wins.
Interestingly... though playing in different parks, both pitching staffs surrendered about the the same number of HR's (125 Agate, 123 Hummers), but on offense there was a 3-1 difference (Agate 297, Hummers 99)... give credit to the Agate pitching staff.
It'll be an interesting series...
And to think I was just 29 wins shy of being in the finals myself.
