2007 pre-card live draft

[quote:3811dec377]I'm most hesitant about F. Sanchez and I'm wondering if I'll regret taking him that early.[/quote:3811dec377]

Perhaps not. Some previews have him listed as the 4th or 5th best Third Baseman available, but as a Second Baseman he goes to the top of the heap (with his 2 range this season). He also falls within the top 20 hitters overall (which places him firmly in Round 2) and you took him in Round 2, so no real reach there at all imo.

He will obviously be murder on LH's but just decent vs. RH's, so how your division shakes out will probably make or break his second round pick worth for you.

[quote:3811dec377]I'm also wishing I had a stronger lefty starting pitcher - I really wanted Sabathia, Sowers or A. Sanchez. [/quote:3811dec377]

While all 3 of those pitchers were better than the one you took, there are others as well, and they might not all be taken as of yet.

Now, that most people have the Ratings book and disk maybe we can get a little trade action going.

Good idea. Just need time to digest stats. Darn job interferes with the more important things in life- it will take me about a week to get ready.

Yeah, so the people who got the info will try to fleece those without it. I will take any trade offers with a large grain of salt as I have never used the disk or book. I would rather wait until the SN game is released and I can see the cards before I make any trades.

You made some very nice picks Smitty. Here are your "winners" as I see them:

J. Mauer - great pitcher park card
F. Sanchez - ditto, kills LHP, decent vs RHP
C. Guillen - hi E rating but good hitting card
C. Coste - great pitcher park card vs RHP & decent 1B rating (4e5)

Likely disappointments:
C Young 8 BP HR vs RH, definitely needs pitcher park
Saito R1, not R2, but great card otherwise
Hunter lot of BP HR & DP, tough card to mix with above "winners" in pitcher park
Crawford & Utley less than ideal OBP

Anyway, LMK if u have any questions about your other guys, happy to help...

BTW all, I am willing to deal Dellucci, decent card vs RHP, for pitching.

Dalinoth - check PT when you get a chance...

Thanks qk - I really appreciate it. I do have a pitchers park, for HRs anyway - KC - HRs (1-4 both sides) - so I hope he'll be OK. I might as well ask about the guys you didn't comment on: Oswalt, Pedro, and R. Hill on the mound; also, can Hawpe play the field, and how does L. Castillo look (and his e rating).

Sure Alex. Comments below.

D. Jeter - solid 1st pick, great D with excellent OBP/speed.
J. Thome - excellent DH/1B card vs RH but needs a platoon mate.
Jer. Weaver - lopsided, gives up a ton of HR to LH hitters. Definitely needs a pitcher/RH park.
J. Papelbon - awesome closer card. No worries here.
J. Bay - decent but not exceptional power card.
J. Smoltz - poor vs LH, pretty good vs RH.
B. Hall - useful RH power card, but best suited as DH vs LH. Errors at 2b & 3b make him hard to use there.
V. Martinez - tons of DPs, horrible D & lack of BP power hurt his card. A switch-hitting Piazza without the power.
C. Wang - top 25/30 SP card, induces a ton of DPs & does not give up BP HR. Best suited to a hitter park.
J. Crede - great D, decent power, no OBP. A value 3B for a hitter park.
E. Bedard - very decent * SP card. Doesn't give up a ton of SLG to RH, mostly hits/OBP.
J. Benoit - One of the better R2 cards, good for hitter park.
A. Otsuka - Nice RH killer closer but 100% redundant with Papelbon. Would trade him.
C. Ray - Another closer who gets out RH but he has more weakness to LH than the other two. This was a real reach, stockpiling closers not really useful at this point in the draft considering how many holes your lineup had.

Analysis - you overdid it on RPs, and your D looks very poor besides Jeter & Crede. You need LH hitting badly (especially OBP) as Thome & Martinez are the only hitters you have from that side. I would deal a closer + Wang for a good LH position player, maybe Hall as well as you can get a platoon mate for Thome in the autodraft.
