I just wish your meeting would have somehow prevented you from taking Cliff Lee. I was bouncing off the walls hoping he'd fall to me.

I almost took Zambrano.... but then decided to lock up my weak hitting middle infielders. Was hoping he would slip through to the next round. Actually he fell to the next pick! A good pick up for Palmtana!

I was going to grab Zambrano in Round 11 but then mossy took Drew which forced me to take Ryan in that round since he and Drew were 1 and 1A on my list of the remaining SS's. Thanks for holding off on Big Z. He's a walker. My kind of guy.

The 4th consecutive day of 20+ picks. What an efficient crew.

Zambrano and Ryan are both good picks. Ryan is going to have a lot value seeing how he should get a low error rating and can hit a bit. I'm suprised Ryan lasted this long.

Palmtana, you're a fan of walks? What pitchers did you like from last years set?

Morrow, Happ, Masterson, Jiminez (would have liked to have got him this year), Kazmir. I never played the board game, so when I found this online version I headed for the forum (the old one) and read every post since its inception. I copied and pasted hints/tips/strategy. 30 pages worth. Some of the things I read have stuck with me such as "you can get away with walks in pitchers park" and " righties who hit righties are good to have" and "blown saves are killers in pitcher parks". I don't always follow them but those and other maxims keep me grounded.

I thought I was the only one who didn't play the board game. Like you, I just kept reading and reading the old forums. A huge help, something the newbies of today didn't have a chance to see. The vet community was much more help back then. I still have fond memories of the player actual $ value lists Luckyman and someone whose name escapes me at the moment use to write. I used that thing as a bible my first full year.

As for this draft, I dunno. I kind of like my staff so far, nothing lights out, but should be consistant for me. My hitting is VERY vanilla. Good, but nothing special in any of the categories, and defense that is also good but not great. All of which seems to add up to a .500 team at best. I'm disappointed :( :(

Thanks for sharing Palmtana.

The one thing I love about strat is that there are so many ways to put together winning teams, yet, some things always remain constant for most players. Such as the things you mentioned.

I too never played the board game and am grateful for all the people that have helped me along the way. The way I’ve learned the most is by posting me teams and asking some of the experts to critique them (I’ve never beey bashful). A lot of the time I tinker and make changes based on their advice, other times I stick with my ideas but I always listen and I’m always trying to learn.

I never played the board game either, but I would have if I knew about it. I was instead stuck with a dice-based game that used players stats from the baseball cards. Problem was, the pitchers had NO impact. Really bothered me.

My notebooks from those days are full of box scores, stats, league schedules that I wrote up by hand. Yes, I was destined to play strat. :D
