IMHO, when you are suddenly faced with a divisional breakdown that goes counter to the team you THOUGHT you were building, you are "forced" to think of solutions and player-mixes that you would not have come up with had you been planning all along in a 'perfect world.'
If, for instance, you expected a more balanced or power division, and you are stuck in a division of total pitcher's ballparks, wouldn't that force you to "retool?"
Just my opinion. . . It's like working muscles you are not used to working.
