Netplay III

Seems to me that the simplest thing on injuries would be to allow the day to day injuries since we certainly dont want guys with 50 ABs to gain 250 ABs and such.........oh and closer rules do suck you should be able to use whomever you want to close just as a MLB manager would

I think it's time to set the rules by executive decree. Toi, you know how everyone feels about it and the managers we have will play no matter what. Set them and let's schedule the draft to begin one week from today on 1/16, we may get a straggler or 2. Otherwise we can go with 8.

Please keep these things in mind:

1. We had a problem in our first go with usage, it's not a realistic option for managers. Do away with it.

2. You need HOFers for certain seasons but 1975 has enough players. There is nothing more frustrating then going through a line-up and not being able to get anyone out. Games go on forever. In the interest of time alone let's try to keep HOFers to a minimum.

3. If you don't use the honor system for usage you must use injuries and force daily injuries. In SIM leagues I run, Hal goes after the overused guys. He doesn't just pick star players and, from what I've seen, it's not more than 2 guys at most. If it's a problem, put the overused guy in the minors. We should use these rules just to see how they play out.

4. Use the closer rule. This should not even be an issue.

5. Don't let me sway things one way or the other. I also don't want to confuse issues. These are my opinions and I think would make the season the most fun. Please set the rules and let's go.

Time to get off the pot :!:

You're right, we'll go with the rules sent out in the file: 100% usage, no injuries, 3 HOF'ers, no closer rule, no DH, no weather effects.

We'll try turning in results every other week, kind of splitting the difference between weekly and netplay slow format. Won't be able to skip around too much, but won't have the time pressure to get a series in during the week.

Since we're not using weather, I'll try to key the schedule to our "real life" start date, making it easier to see what needs to be played and when.

75 must have been a year the Yanks played at Shea Stadium while Yankee Stadium was being renovated. Both teams show Shea as their home field with identical singles and HRs.

Thoughts on usage and injuries: Keep in mind that in using HOF players, most played 154-game seasons, so 162 games would represent a 5-percent increase in usage. This is the reasoning behind the 105-percent usage rule. Also, I prefer injuries because it adds realism. Injuries are listed on the cards and are part of the game, therefore they should be a factor. The prospect of injury, especially for an injury-prone player, puts a premium on drafting depth.

[b:cb3363fe04]I cannot understand the thinking on the no-DH stance.[/b:cb3363fe04] The AL was a DH league in 1975, and there are several players who filled that role either exclusively (like Willie Horton, with over 600 ABs and no rated position) or primarily. Besides taking such players almost entirely out of circulation, there is also the pitchers' ratings ... which do not reflect actual ability at bat. Hence, every AL pitcher is automatically tagged with a 1W rating. As a personal matter, I hate the DH (along with Astroturg and interleague play), but for the purposes of this league I think it is necessary.
