[quote:1a30b7e904="Palanion"]Eric, how about SP-only for one and SP/RP for the other?

For example, Greg Maddux S8* would be SP-only and Addie Joss S9*/R5 would be SP/RP.[/quote:1a30b7e904]

That would also work.

See edited post above on the Any P position.

If the category was changed to "Any SP/RP" the pool (highest priced) would look like this:

Alexander
Walsh
T. Brown
Matthewson
Bender
Paige
Camnitz
Vance
Hubbell
Grove
Waddell
Hershiser
Short
Adams
Dean
all Negro League SP
.......

"SP" position would then look like:
Maddux
Koufax
Joss
Johnson
Pfiester
Carlton
Covaleski
Gibson
Drysdale
Cicotte
Guidry
Young
McLain
Clemens
.....

[quote:17500fed6e="emart"]On the DH issue, there are probably several things that could be done, but a combination of two might work best.

1. Players selected for DH must be a 3 or 4 at their primary position. Perhaps better said (considering players with multiple cards), [i:17500fed6e]any player selected at DH cannot be a 1 or a 2 at the primary position on any card[/i:17500fed6e].

If this were the case, then the player pool available to the manager with the first pick in the DH round would look like this (higher priced players only):

Foxx
Williams
Beckwith
Kiner
Cash
H. Wilson
Greenberg
Mize
D. Allen
Carew
Stargell
Suttles
J. Wilson
OH Johnson
Wheat
Killebrew
Klein
McCovey

2. Any player selected in the DH round must be played at the DH position during league play.

Please comment.
Thanks.[/quote:17500fed6e]

The difficulty with the 3-4 rated is that it is too restrictive. One may wish to take a player like Maris and DH him. This option is always available in every league. It also does not prevent someone from taking Wilson in the CF round and them DHing him.

I agree that there is a problem to be solved here though. If we do nothing then my first pick in the DH round would be Yount. I like Jet40's idea that we just play the drafted player in the primary position on his card. No switching cards or years. Then the same rule applies everywhere, thus when picked for DH, that card must DH. No advantage nor disadvantage to any individual position.

When the rules were finalized I was aware that putting the DH into the position mix would have a significant effect on the draft. Leaving it until the final round subjected the manager with DH as his 1st pick to his choice of the draft ‘leftovers,’ which I felt was a disadvantage to that manager.

It has become clear to me that allowing free selection of all available players during Round 6, including those from positions that have yet to be drafted, puts managers who have a 1st round selection in the positions that follow the DH round at a disadvantage, since the prime players from the unselected positions are almost sure to go in the DH round.

My intent from the start was to make this version of the position draft theme essentially the same as previous leagues, but different in small ways to stimulate strategy both in the draft and during the season, and to make the draft as fair as possible for each participant. In essence, [i:04f5619335]each manager should feel that when their position comes up and they have 1st pick, that they have a decided advantage over all the other managers, and can pick from ‘the cream of the crop’ at that position.[/i:04f5619335]

With this in mind I would like to make two adjustments to the rules before we proceed with the draft, addressing the DH situation and the ‘Any P’ situation.

[b:04f5619335]1. In the 3rd round for the ‘Any P’ position, the position will now be Any SP-only or SP/RP. RP-only pitchers are excluded for the 'fairness' reasons stated above, and will be selected in round 12.

2. Players selected in the DH round must be used at the DH position for the duration of the season. [/b:04f5619335]

Regarding the DH round draft:

Draft rounds 1-5 will proceed with the entire round being completed before the next round begins.

The first pick (BobBoone) in the DH round will be made with all remaining players available. [i:04f5619335]The DH round will then pause[/i:04f5619335]. Then, each manager with a [b:04f5619335]#1 [/b:04f5619335]pick in rounds 7-11, positions LF, 1B, RF, SS and 3B, will make their pick for that round, out order. Following the 1st picks in each of the later rounds, the DH round will resume with all hitters available for the remainder of the round. The remainder of the draft will be processed normally.

This is kinda crazy!
I Pick last for 3B
2nd last for SS
3rd last for 2B
4th last for CF

I guess I wrap up 12th place rather quickly! 8-)

I am ok with whatever the commish decides.

I am there with you mjruth. I am last for ss, next to last for third base, third last for cf and fourth last for 2b. I am in the top 4 for all three pitchers rounds. I think I will be fine with the 100 mill limit, well as fine as I can be.

For another time:

Could the draft be done where the first pick of each group was done first, then go to the second pick etc rather than doing all the second basemen first etc.

Just want to make sure I understand the rules. Anyone we draft in the DH round MUST play DH for us, all season. BUT, for the other positions, you DON'T have to play a drafted player at that position. So, you could draft Ruth in the RF round, but end up playing him at 1b during the season, as an example. Is that correct?
