Sleezy Pre-Card

Postby qksilver69 » Tue Feb 07, 2006 6:14 pm

Yeah Smitty, I was looking at Bell but went with Bruntlett, who hits LHP very well but not so well as to be cost-prohibitive, and could fill my 3B or CF platoon hole. He also sucks bigtime vs. RHP so hopfully that will keep the cost down.

On Church, I needed a LH bat who hits LHP well and could play a decent LF. I can live with a 3-2-3 OF but don't like worse than that.

I'm finding myself making some gut-wrenching decisions with every pick still, and like you Smitty, seeing guys I wanted being plucked right & left. This is one of the most competitive pre-cards I've seen, will be a great season.

I don't know about you guys but I'm pretty worried about salary cap. Might have to give some of these guys back.

Heilman is my only question mark as far as being too pricey, he should come in around $6.5M I have been doing some detailed research on comparable players from the 2005 set. As long as TSN doesn't vary widely from their current pricing structure, I should be ok....I probably have room for about 3-5 more mid-priced players before I have to stock up on scrubs....

I don't know about you guys, but I find myself going back and forth with philosophy for the draft. On one hand, I think I need to go for low cost potential value picks, then I see a guy sitting there that could be a nice fit given a $100 million cap, and I go for it, figuring that I'll see the cards and then release players to fit under the cap. I still haven't worked it out in my mind. Unlike qk, I haven't done extensive research regarding cost and really have little clue in that area. So, basically, I'm just wingin' it from here on out. But, it is fun and the anticipation certainly is building.

Smitty - My $0.02, I'd predict your around $58M with you current picks. That doesn't include a deduction for high injury players.

Qk - I don't think Heilman will be that much. He's got a good card, but he's a S(5). I guess it might also depend if they bump up his price for the C(4) rating he's got.

My dumbass just figured out that injury ratings are in the book. I hadn't even looked at it since I had the disk.

Now I have to find backups for everyone. Ugh.

Yeah if Heilman is S5 then maybe he'll be in the $5.5 range. I am debating how to use him anyway - if I keep him I may actually use him like the Mets did, which would be really funny - mostly long relief guy for when my scrub SPs get yanked early, occasional closer, occasional starter. As long as I can get 200 IP from him I don't care much....

SGT D - I'm guessing you're somewhere around $67M.

Hendrix, I have my team at around $62M right now - your numbers for me pretty close to that?
